Actually you have self esteem in all ares of your life, not just spiritual. We all have to build up our intellectual self esteem and mental self esteem and physical self esteem as well.
I have to disagree with your statement that other people are transient and ineffectual. We humans are intensely social beings and need others to survive physically and psychologically from birth. Other people give us critical feedback on our behavior by the way they behave towards us without which we would could not gauge our growth and development or lack of it.
