New research shows that loneliness can spread among groups of people like a bad cold can.
Instead of spreading through coughs or physical contact, the “loneliness bug” is caught by negative interactions.
A lonely person becomes less trusting of others, and basically "makes a mountain out of a molehill," misinterpreting odd looks or phrasings by a friend that wouldn't even be noticed by a happier person. The lonely person takes this as an affront, triggering a cycle of negative interactions that cause people to lose friends. The lonely person and the friends he loses thus become lonelier.
So be nice and loving to others and go out and make friends like crazy.
