Wikipedia says that "Angelou was found dead by her caretaker on the morning of May 28, 2014. She had reportedly been in bad health and had canceled recent scheduled appearances." She was 86.
You have inspired thousands. R.I.P., Maya.

Some men and women are described as being "before their time". Maya Angelou was a beacon of light in the time that she belonged in. Our time. She was inspiration to many, enemy of few. She brought hope to so many people who felt oppressed through no fault of their own. She showed us that human spirit is indomitable, that no one owns the right to make us feel any less than human and that, as humans, we have a birthright to make of ourselves anything we want to be. But it's on us. No one will do it for us.
I cried when I heard the news this morning. She had a lasting impact on my life.
Thank you, Maya.

An excellent choice for anyone looking to find out more about Maya Angelou and a good introduction to her life. Her first autobiography, she would pen six more. Her last autobiography, Mom & Me & Mom, she completed just last year, at 85.

It's hard to walk away after listening to her spoken words without wanting more. RIP. Maya Angelou, you will be missed by many.

I am just glad she left us with so much to remember her by. I will treasure my small collection and search for more.

I just had a mid-morning coffee with an American expatriate who makes a living exporting furniture. He told me he considered Maya Angelou to have been an unamerican [yes he used it as a noun] and a lifelong anti-american and that the "lamestream" media tripping over themselves to lionize and eulogize her "just goes to show you how much damage has been done since 2008."

I would say to this guy, "I hope the door didn't hit you on the way out." He leaves America because "it's no longer an America I want to be associated with" and then sits back from a comfortable distance mocking it and denigrating it. Good riddance. I'm sorry, but real Americans are busy rolling up our sleeves and trying to get something done for each other. This guy can either help out or shut up. When he left, I hope he gave up his citizenship, because clearly, he doesn't deserve it.
