A 10 minute clip from one of the first episodes. I love this program! I remember running home from school at 6 years old to get in in time to see this and also Dogtanion and the 3 Muskahounds 😀

I think Cities of Gold was actually a French program, was it not? And dubbed for the US/UK.
Yes, I think it was French. I loved the trailer and soundtrack, it was in French so you had a different one but I can remember the words even now.
I think I must have been watching this from the age of 6 or 7 too...it was on every Wednesday afternoon, in those days school kids had Wednesday afternoons off. It was such a treat! That program really captured my imagination.

Edit: yes, I've checked and apparently it was a French/Japanese coproduction . It was first shown in France in 1983, I was 5 then but there were lots of repeats.

You're right, they don't make kids' programs like that anymore, it's such a shame...

Dogtanion!!! I loved that too, it was such fun! amazing stuff! Another favourite of mine was Inspector Gadget although I might have been a little older when I watched it.

Did you ever watch Grendizer? that was a bit more like the kind of things kids watch now.

Yes, I remember there was a great selection of programs from 3.30 ( which I sadly missed coz school finished then) through to 5.30 and then there was Neighbours on, which maybe they didn't show in France?
No, we never had Neighbours in France... thank God; instead they bombarded us with French-style Neighbours that was just as daft!Ulysses was a fantastic program too. Gosh, I'd forgotten about these programs until you mentioned them. It makes me feel a little nostalgic! 🙂
I've never heard of Bananaman but I used to love "Maya the Bee" which is for younger children (though I watched when I was older too and... watched an episode when I last went to France - for old time's sake!!-, as it's being broadcast again 😳 ), here she is: http://www.radiojunior.com/images/toon_zone_Maya1.jpg

So many great programs!

I used to be addicted to a cartoon about how the body works. You'd see a cartoon of some kid falling and getting hurt, and then suddenly you're inside the body with the army of antibodies fighting the bully infection causing bacteria, with the nerves whizzing all over the place. Top edutainment, but I can't remember the name of it for the life of me.

I watched that too, it used to be on before or after the news for some reason. It was really fascinating.

It was called 'Once Upon a Time...Life' (on how the body works) but later there were other series on Man, Space, Explorers, Great Discoveries.
