Not a trip of Mr. Minford proportions but hey 🙂
Just found out recently that I shall be flying to Washington DC on business at the beginning of March and, unlike my colleague who is going to return to the UK at the end of that week, I'ma thinking of travelling from DC up to New York after work on the Friday and spending five nights in New York. First decision will be whether to travel by train (I think I'm right in thinking that there is a direct line between the two cities?) or by bus.
The main source of my deliberations however is if, as seems very likely, I do lob the New York part on to my trip then I shall have to choose between the New York Rangers vs Pittsburgh Penguins on a Sunday or the Knicks vs the Boston Celtics on the Tuesday, both at Madison Square Gardens. Both ice hockey and basketball have long held an appeal but I only have enough money for one and not the other. Is the atmosphere better at either of them?
Also, anyone familiar with the Garden and best places to sit? Are the tier 3 and 4 seats so far back that it's not worth it? Looks like it's possible to buy tickets online from the Madison Square Gardens website (through TicketMaster - am guessing they allow international purchases).
My first visit to the US! 😀

You know, Mark, the more I thought about it the hockey game might be more your speed. As you come from the land of soccer (ok, football) houligans and riots, you might enjoy the fights that break out in the hockey games. And by all means, check out professional wrestling on tv. That is the America you don't want to miss.

Kirk, am leaning towards the ice hockey (cheerleaders or no cheerleaders). I could try and get the cheapest tickets and go to both ice hockey and basketball... Wrestling huh? I'm guessing we're not talking Greco-Roman? In fact, there is something on at Madison Square Garden called "Wrestlemania XX". But, alas I'm due to fly home a two days before. A few days earlier and it could all have been so different...
Think I will catch the train from Washington DC to New York. I've heard the museums in DC are pretty special so perhaps I should hang around there a day or two before going to New York.

It's not fake like all that greco-roman crap. You will have wasted your trip here if you do not go to that. It will put America in complete perspective for you . Trust me.

greco-roman crap
As one who spen two years messing about on smelly mats, I must strenuously object to your post! Ha, knave! Stay down there in Kentucky or I'll have you in a chicken wing so fast that the herbs and spices will be of no consequence...
Crap indeed 😠.
😉
Hope you enjoy your visit Mark. I'd go with the Hockey. I'm a Pittsburg fan in that area. Never been to a game though.
While you 're in DC you need to visit the Smithsonian Institute. A hugh museum of just about everything. The best part of DC.
Of course, basketball is great and the Celtics have been one of my favorite teams.
Hope the best to you.

Carry on...
Enjoy the trip, Mark.
Originally posted by kirksey957The only way to settle this I reckon is for RC to take on Kirksey in one bout of Greco-Roman and then one bout of lyra-clad other-kind-of wrestling.

Doug - thanks big guy. I've heard from others that the National Air and Space museum in particular, part of the Smithsonian, is rather spiffy.
Just been to the web site though and it looks like all those museums close at 5.30pm each day 🙁 Will have to try and wangle some time off work or mebbe stay in DC an extra day before going to NYC...
Squirrel-I live in NYC,so first-definately the Knicks,as they finally have a team. The Rangers suck! And I must caution against going to Scores,as it is an overpriced,"Celebrity" butt-kisser joint with skanky girls. If you want to visit a good gentlemen's club,I suggest my favorite:Flashdancers on Broadway between 52nd-53rd Sts. Go before 7PM,as there is no cover. And you must visit the Marshall Chess Club at 23 W.10th St. Hope you enjoy your visit.
