Originally posted by willatkinsMan, where to begin. I visit N.O. quite often. Begin your day with a visit to Cafe Du Monde in the French Quarter. It was a favorite hang out of Paul Morphy's who lived across the street .
I am going to be in New Orleans on March 16th-19th. Any suggestions on what to do or where to go? Looking for some new things to do.
Thanks!
Bill

Go to a restaurant called the Gazebo on Decatur Street. There is a master there named Jude Acers who will give you a game. He might be a GM, I'm not sure

Originally posted by Bobla45If he's still advertising he's probably still there. It appears from the book that I bought from him ( yes, he talked me into buying one ) he should be in his late fifties. The bookmark that came with the book had his bio printed on it. And, it had an interesting fact, he used to room with Janis Joplin back in the 60's.

Originally posted by zach918Well my pitiful game with Jude Acers sure wasn't worth 5 bucks. As far as I remember, I was lost in a matter of minutes. But, $5 for the experience and the atmosphere of it all was worth it. Playing a chess game exposed to the sights and sounds (and smells) of the French Quarter with it's rich heritage, knowing that Paul Morphy lived and played chess in that very local ( there is a statue of him nearby ) justified the small expense for me.
is the game worth 5 bucks?
