I was thinking to myself - the economic downturn in England could turn out to be a blessing in disguise.

If there is no more money for the councils, they cannot afford to provide council housing.

If there are no more council houses available, the people who live in them will have to move elsewhere.

Therefore - no more townies!

That sounds like a pretty damn good deal to me - I say let the bad times roll!!

We really need a US-English to British-English traslator program here. To me a townie is a regular citizen who lives near a large University. Have no idea what council housing is. Subsidized housing for the poor? Here in the US we call that section8.
