On tuesday I went out and bought a new CD(not telling which one) and like many new CDs these days has content protection, to protect against downloaders. NOw personally I'm not a downloader. I've always thought this was a form of stealing and wrong. So I really have no problem with it, but as I tried to put my new CD onto my MP3 player(Sony Psyc) I get a message telling me that my lisences won't allow me. WTF. I tried going to several websites(EMI, Roadrunner records, the bands) but not a one has a contact us spot for me to complain on. This has really pissed me off. Now I've become an innocent casualty in the war against downloaders.

Music is great; the music business is run by parasitic worms.
Originally posted by CanadaguyWow, that's a bummer. They're forcing people to d/l the program that will copy the music and remove the copy protection. If I were you I'd take it right back to the shop and tell them I want my money back.

Originally posted by CanadaguyTry passing it through a music program, Windows Media, itunes etc. AS you rip the music look at the options and see if you can rip without copy protection. Then make a copy that mp3 to another location on your PC and upload it from there. I'm pretty sure I have managed to get round any copy protection I've ever run inot in some fashion and I'm sure I've done this several times with successful results.

Also, often times exploring the disk on your PC and plucking out the files that way can bypass the protection.
Originally posted by CanadaguyWhat you bought isn't a 'cd' as it doesn't adhere to the original specifications of a cd with this added copyright protection malarky.

Originally posted by StarrmanI would but the copy protect is embedded, like CD extras. Put in the CD and copy protect comes up first. asking if you agree to the terms(a long list of legalese). If you put NO it'll automatically eject the disc.

The only copy-controlled disc I own is 'Hail to the Thief' and I still had no problem ripping it for my iPod. I would just take it back and d/l the thing for free. If you feel that guilty about the artist not receiving his 50 cents (and the record company their $12 or so) then send him a couple quarters in the mail and call it even.
