KnightWulfe psoted a bunch of our e-mail addresses without our permission from the Medieval Diplomacy game; I asked that the post be removed but not that "something be done" further. Actually hacking would be very serious, the other stuff would depend.
Unbelievable. So where would you draw the line if this website was your business? When do the threats become an offense and a detriment to the site? When the one make making the threat has actually gone through with it? That makes perfect sense.

I am not of the opinion that throwing someone off the site (if that is the proper response) for despicable conduct is "more moderation".

I'm through with you, marauder. I do not have the patience or desire to argue fruitlessly with you for pages about this. You may feel that sense of reward in wasting hours of time in a shouting match but I don't.

Throwing someone off the site for things they've written in the Forums is moderation to the highest degree. Uber-Moderation as it were. It will lead to a further chilling effect on speech in the Forums. You can believe more moderation is a good thing or you can believe more moderation is a bad thing, but you can't rationally believe that throwing people off the site for what they say isn't "more moderation" when "threats" of this nature have apparently not been a sufficient reason to ban people in the past.

Yes, actually it does. Pop Quiz which is the crime:

1) Saying I'm going to punch you in the mouth;

OR

2) Punching you in the mouth.

So if someone said they were going to go around on a killing spree, and you were pretty sure they were serious, you feel it would be fine to ignore it?

Of course, I'm sure you would express your outrage if such an event then did come to pass...

Isn't it relative to who you're saying it to?

For instance:
Saying to an old age pensioner who's just ATM'd her week's pay: "I'm gonna punch you in the mouth." Is quite a hideous crime.

Where as punching you is a form of amusement.

Yet, saying to Darvlay: "I'm going to punch you in the mouth" is satire.
But punching Skeeter is...well....nope. That's not a crime either.

Please explain; I've been in favor of loose moderation of speech in the Forums since I got here. That's what the "Forum Wars of 2004" was all about. Perhaps you've forgotten.

Pop Quiz 2: Which is the one where the crime can still be prevented?

It's true that making a threat of physical violence in order to force someone to do something they don't want to do is a crime; my example did not take such exceptions into account. That's true if there is an immediate intention to do the harm or if a reasonable person is the victim's position would believe there was. I fail to see how either could be true in an internet forum.

Meaning what? Are you talking "Pre-Crime" like that Tom Cruise movie?

Are you proposing locking everybody up who makes a threat of any kind? The jails would be pretty full.
