Everywhere I go I run into that phrase. I see a clan by that name....
I also see on some people's profile, original pawn star but don't see them listed in the clan (the one I looked at anyway).

And what's all this about some people only playing pawn stars?
A sore subject to lots I'm sure.
And why would anyone want to limit themselves to a handful of players anyway? Isn't Chess about learning and Life?
Ya Chess is all about life. Go figure.

(If I accidently type porn stars sometime, forgive me. new phrase, words get jumbled sometimes....lol)
Ok, looking for a pawn star history lesson here. Who's the Teacher?

RHP was started by C&R for fun and was 100% free. Some people played here and liked it, and the numbers grew until C&R were forking out serious cash from their own pockets to keep the server running and still the site was starting to slow up. So C&R asked for voluntary donations of X amount, in return for nothing more than getting a star next to their name - many voluteered this cash, and they because "pawn stars".
But the site kept growing, and more upgrades were necessary, so C&R reluctantly made the decision to limit the number of games for non-pawn stars and to make subscription necessary to get unlimited games (I may be wrong in the chronology here, but that's basically it). Now anyone who subscribes is a pawn star, but those who gave before it was needed are original pawn stars. Many are both because we want to support this site to the max.

The clan thing is only the same in name.

Some people only play pwan stars because non-PS's are more likely to abandon games etc. becase they have no made commitment to the site. Still, a contentious issue because how else do you get people to enjoy & then join the site unless you play them...?

pawn starts are the guys with bigger pawns that everyone else, and...well-you know the rest 😉

bascially-pawn stars are subscribers to this wonderful site 🙂 we get to play unlimited (well-that is, as much as the server can cope with...) games, as well as being able to join clans and tournaments.

original pawn stars (without wings) are those that gave a one-off donation to the site before the subscription shizzle started, although many now have wings as they decided to subscribe too 🙂 i think-although amn't sure-that OPS's don't have all the benefits of "wings", such as they still have adverts etc 😉

and as to the "only playing pawnstars", this is generally cause you know a pawn star's gonna stick about and finish your game (well-most of the time anyway 😛).

Well thank you, that was informative. This is the first time in my life I've ever "payed to play" and I'd do it again in a minute. This site must continue! I may not be an original Pawn Star, but I'll support this site in anyway I can.
After about ten pots of coffee and two marathon sessions of chess the last two days, I even had a thought...(ouch)
Maybe sponser memberships for younger people who love the game and can't afford an opportunity like this.
Something to check into sometime....if I can get my butt out of this chair that is.
Coffee's done, who wants a cup?

there's actually a relativly high amount of people who are paid for, usually by "anonamous" persons. but problems arise when people start fishing for memberships 😕
