That doesn't sound like a very healthy attitude. Yes, you need to protect yourself to a degree, but if you try to protect yourself completely, you are actually controlled by your need for control. It's not easy to balance this. I am usually more on the safe side, but I try not to shut myself totally to the outer world, and my life is much better for it, even if it can hurt.

The relationship had a bad history. For a while I was the flakey one and couldn't keep her happy. Then it was her, and it was her that took more steps wrong than she should have.

I'm sorry coconut, i'm sorry that your faith in women will be affected, that your confidence may be dented and that right now you are really hurting. I hate to think of people being upset, but hopefully in the near future you will grow strong again and with time you will find the right lady for you.

Give it time, get out and enjoy yourself, have a few drinks if it helps but don't let the act of one selfish, selfcentred, cheap human being ruin any hope of future happiness, don't tar everyone with the same brush.
