After England's elimination there were English people on the streets partying with the Portuguese. Quite a lot of them, actually. These are the 'true' football fans if you ask me. People who love the game so much they travelled from their country to watch the event. You know what? I bet they had a much lower ...[text shortened]... d not investing it. What is the goal after all for them? Happiness or maximum growth?
An interesting slant on the topic, but I'm more of a mind that long term benefits are more important than short term happiness, so for me, that money was ill used.

Oh dear. The old racism card again, is it. ironic how you see nothing wrong with implying you are all honest and sporting while the rest of the world cheats and thereby wins against you.

Please highlight any racist statements made by me in this thread, or p!ss off the lot of you.

I do not think all English people are like your yobbish football fans. i do however think your fans are the worst in the world, and often heap disgrace on your country. But that's the football fans. Actually, the rugby fans are quite a different breed, and tend to have fun with the locals on ther travels. Yobs and skinheads like the footie. They give you a bad name abroad. Nowhere do I suggest you are all like that. You all know the truth about the yobbish elements in your football support, and if you don't, then you are kidding yourselves.

Other remarks are about either ludicrous media coverage or your poor showing as a team. If you consider that racism, then well done to you.

And Wheely, on positive review in a Norwegian rag doesn't surprise me, as they are pro-English soccer and usually support English teams from my personal experience. Post it if you have it.

Otherwise: El P. (Spain):

'England continues its absurd World Cup campaign. With each passing game, it gets worse.'.

The world sees through the hype and general crud. You lot didn't.

50,000 actually go to the games

200 misbehave

the other 10,000,000 at home who want England to win are embarrassed by bad behaviour

so what does that actually signify?

Nothing of course.... except that we do support our own and we can get pretty fervent.

Do we hate the Welsh ... No of course not.

Do we think the Scots are Crap at football ... well only in our weaker moments ... like when we are sober.

..but the UK competes as one in the Olympics and the Scots, N Irish Welsh are bloody fantastic whenever they do well. It's all artiifcial in Soccer and should be remembered as such. If we played as UK we'd be unbeatable. (except against diving Italians).

That may well be. however, we've seen in the past that it tends to be more than 200. There is a hard core of thugs, who are organised and have planned their violence. Others can join in, as we have seen. It's not a coincidence that you were banned from Europe for so long.

And why is it that you've been at this for longer than anyone else, are incapable of controlling it, and still are known to be the worst fans in the world for hooliganism?

(I do realise that decent people are ashamed of these displays- that was my point, which certain thicker characters tend to miss. You really have to spell it out to the illiterates here.)

Nothing can condone hooliganism.

Football is a focus and it is sad,

It provides the lunatic fascist fringe with a target that they are too unimaginative to find for themselves. Soccer is incidental.

Typical racist - when confronted defends himself with the "I didn't say all [nation's people] were [stereotype]".

Typical Mick - he's just annoyed because they invented holligans and yet the English are so much better at it than them.

I didn't say you were all Teutonic scum. I didn't, truly, I didn't.

There's the Jutes, too, not strictly Teutonic.

Up the Albion!

Great, where ever someone cries racism, there's a Saffrican to sort it out. Where would the world be without your temperance, oh great Bore?.. or Boar?.. no, the first one. Do tell us more about racial tolerance and social harmony...

Typical Saxon. He's just annoyed that they invented football, and everyone's better at it than them.
