I was fortunate enough today to be with my younger sister, whom gave birth to her first child. He was 6 pounds 12 ounces and 22 inches long. I was amazed at how such a little life can change your whole outlook on life. I held him when he was 5 minutes old and instantly melted away. Why is it that these little creatures have such an amazing power over us. Anyway his Name is Thomas Eli. Thomas after me of course and Eli after Eli Manning. I m curious to learn what others experiences with child birth have been. Having no children of my own I was still amazed at how someone else kid could do that to me.

I have had three natural child birth experiences and I can tell you from experience there is nothing beautiful about it. It hurts, it's messy and it's a very undignified process. You do things in the course of childbirth that would make the devil himself blush. Imagine scenes from the exorcist and you get the picture. But the end result is pure bliss. The moment that fresh little newborn is laying helplessly on your chest life itself begins. And it only gets better after they clean em up! Congrats to your sister and take great pleasure in having the easy part, being the uncle.

Thanks for all of your best wishes. She was in labor for 24+ hours...my hat goes off to all of you brave ladies who dare go through all of that pain seeing my sis feeling like that was heartbreaking. And then after all of that work the focus shifts from mother to baby. I dont mean to steal the baby's new thunder but I think ignoring the new mom should not happen.

No unnatural births for me 😀
Unfortunately the majority of women are greatly encouraged to undergo unnatural child birth by either being temporarily paralyzed or having their baby cut out of them. Not natural. 🙁

greetings mokko!

my wife opted for natural childbirth too.
she didn't follow the midwives' instructions too well and dragged it on for 40 hrs.
interestingly enough around hour 37 she was already to give in to medication and the midwives were not going to stop her either (we had moved into the hospital by then), but her doctor believed she could go through with it because she really understood that my wife wanted to do this natural childbirth thing.
and so, thanks to this doctor and her encouragement, she toughed it out for another 3 hours and out came the munchkin!
it hadn't been easy, but my wife was glad she had done it her way.

Earlier this year I was working two 16 hour days over a weekend, it was the US Masters weekend. I got in around 11pm on Sunday and opened a beer to enjoy the last four holes of the golf. Just I was aboout was about to take my first gulp, when my wife whimpered from the upstairs, "I'm wet between legs and I'm not going to the loo" As she was 3 weeks away from being due, I believed she was just trying to distract me from watching golf.

But her waters had broken, she then bobbed around a sea of pain, each wave more powerful than the last, until our daughter Tiger Rose was born mid morning. It wasn't until after the birth that I found out the other Tiger had won the golf.

That was 5 months ago and the magic and wonder of fatherhood increases daily.

Congratulations to your sister.

Lol, don't mean to laugh but the pain does tend to override the following instructions part. It wasn't until my last birth that I finally listened to what the nurses where telling me and I had an amazingly quick 3 hour labour. In focusing on the pain and tensing up we actually prolong the whole process.

Congrats to your wife for sticking it out though. And for the record all three times I almost broke down and was begging for the epideral but I'm so glad it never happened. There isn't a greater sense of accomplishment in the whole world. I also strongly urge people to forego finding out the sex of the baby. I knew with my first 2 and opted for the surprise on my third. What a surprise it was! Just added to the whole experience.
