It is often faster to mess about with the position on a set then it is on an analysis board.
Plus it means less time spent staring hard at the screen (which must be a good thing).

Also, most good players will have been brought up using real boards and only started playing on the internet later in their life - it looks more natrual to see a real set in front of you and often your mind can come up with better combinations because of this.
