I always start a game with something like "Greetings from Blackpool" and ex[ect a reply with hello from where ever.
Then play the game, but sometimes people can't be arsed to just acknowledge.
Rude, or what?

Equally possible is that they just move automatically without noticing the message written above the board. Once they've made a move, your friendly greeting is hidden from view until they accidentally click the message log.
Equally possible is that they saw the message, intended to reply but moved first and then... oh, i can't send a message now, it's not my turn.... By the time the game comes around again they've forgotten.
Unlucky!
ps. This is my only gripe with the RHP interface, in game messages. You can only message someone before you move and you can't (without remembering to click on something) see what they wrote after you moved.
Originally posted by DeauIt has happened to me before where I have read the message with the intent to reply later (I might even delay making my move to do so depending on the message and how much thought the reply requires). When I come back I make the move without replying.....doh!

I always open my games with "Best to us both", as all players who have played me know. It doesn't come more fair, or introductory, than that. 🙂
I agree I think it is rude for people not to reply. But then again I always look to see where the person is from via their flag, as they may not be able to read/write English!
Often I get a greetings message from some far off place but I always reply. At least I hope they are greetings messages!! ;-)
