One's life is self-referential non-fiction which may as well be fiction to everyone else.

We don't know we are dreaming when we are dreaming.
So how do we know when we are awake and its not a dream.

I know when I'm dreaming about 80 percent of the time.
I can also wake myself up when the dream gets scary.

I can't run in my dreams.
I just can't seem to master the running thing.

Isn't Philosophy for the dumb kids who aren't smart enough for the real classes so they take Philosophy just so they can stay in school and not grow up?

Now that...is a Philosophical question.

Because the bits of our brain that filter and sort experience are now awake and available to make the distinction.

(Assuming they are not affected by illness or disconnected by extreme experience resulting in derealisation.)

Its supposed to be quite unusual to know you are dreaming, it has happened to me 2 or 3 times.

Interesting. I'm going to look that up. I probably have some underlying mental disorder or something.
