I'm curious about how you choose your model. Do you have certain people you work with for stuff like this or did you just grab the closest available person and say "get under the couch for a second..."?
Hi Mimor,

amazingly enough, the zombie under the couch is me. I'd still consider myself to be learning, so wouldn't be confident enough yet with my light work to ask somebody to spend 10 minutes under the couch pretending to be a member of the undead.

The flash was on a stand, the camera on a tripod, and I had a wireless trigger to start the 10 second timer. While I was figuring out the lighting there was a lot of slipping and sliding going on, and then I took about 15 frames in a row once I was happy enough with the lighting.

The really hilarious thing about this shot is that I couldn't fit under the couch. Conceptual photography is all about improvising with what's at hand. So, not to be beaten, I took a cushion off the couch and held it about 18inches off the ground, and it was propped up by 2 blue, yellow and red Thomas the Tank Engine canvas chairs. 🙂

I have enrolled a model for a shoot I have planned for tomorrow night... my poor wife is donating her foot to a photo for a theme entitled: "Circle of life". 🙂

Nice flooring...matches the hand colouration. Someone is not only a photographer but also an interior decorator.
I had added a green tone to the photo to add to the zombie look. I have since "corrected" the rest of the colour to accurately reflect the tones of the couch/floor, while retaining the sickly green/blue of the hands...

Nice work. Years ago (mid 60's) I "dabbled" with this but with film and dark rooms (my bathroom) boy it was fun. Amazing what you can do with light, shadows and an Minolta SRT 101.

On the plus side: The fingers on the upper hand look like distant nuns in prayer, especially in the first photo. Which adds to the mood.

On the negative side: I find the knot in the wood pulls attention away from the rest. And the warmer tone in the second picture works against the imagery rather than enhancing it. Maybe a blander or rougher surface would work better.

And a big thank you to the aforementioned owner of the foot.

Hey Stees,

I'd like to see what you came up with?
