i actually just looked at the site, it is awful!

Is Alaska very similar (the same) to parts of Canada? Speaking in geographical and nature terms.

Yes, lots in common...Juneau is in the panhandle of Alaska...that thin strip of Alaska between the border of Canada and the Pacific Ocean.
