Something about the Lion (Aslan) 'giving his life so that the others may live', and as a result, being resurrected due to the 'Deep Magic'. Sort of hard to miss that parallel.

IMO, these are some of the most wonderful, imaginative stories I ever read as a child. The Christian allegory went unnoticed when I read them as a youngster, and although it's quite obvious to me now...it changes nothing. Both of 'em are wonderful works of fiction.

Mind you I also enjoyed Independance Day and I don't believe in little green men either. If you are religeous enjoy the 'message' if not enjoy the story. Each to their own.
Religion doesn't contain any e's or logic.

I would do, but I have a course of Chinese water torture booked and I would hate to cancel.

The books are great works of story telling and literature and I still adore them, despte them being overtly Christian. However, the re-telling of the story for the cinema doesn't need to rely on the religious overtures, it should be able to carry itself by the storyline alone. What I am unclear on is whether Blackhawk was suggesting that the film was better for the religious tones or not.

That was supposed to have a "scientologist" message in it. Beats me where. I just saw aliens coming down and trying to invade and losing. Just like Star Trek or War of the worlds. I loved it!

Would someone care to mention "where" the message is, so I can locate it and enjoy it for what it is?
Well you know Battlefield was written by the patron sainte of
Scientology, L Ron Hubbard so I think the big theme was getting
free, which is what scientology is SUPPOSED to do. The fact that it
is one of the more vindictive "religions" out there is besides the fact.
The whole 'religion' was the result of L Ron's bragging at a party in
about the year 1948 when he was in the stable of science fiction
writers of John W Campbell, who owned Astounding/Analog
sci fi magazine. So Battlefield Earth was a book written by L Ron
and strangely enough ended up on the best seller list, mainly because
the 'church' of scientology bought up most of the copies in order to
PUT it on the best seller list to make it look like L Ron was such
a beloved writer. No doubt he was brilliant, no one would take that
from him but he was just a bit nuts too. He did not like anyone
talking bad about his so-called church and ex-scientologist's.....
Well they were persecuted. So wasn't it strange that Battlefield
Earth the movie just so happened to star John Travolta, a 'devout'
scientologist, what a shocker, and then went and made what
arguably was the worst science fiction film of all time.
The book wasn't that bad, too long, and it had the teenage theme
that if you try hard enough you will prevail against all odds and
earthmen will win out in the end.
The aliens in the book were nine feet high and only vaguely
humanoid so it seemed ludicrous to cast Travolta and Whittier in that
roll where they were what seemed about 6 foot 6, obviously with
high boots on. It would have been better to have used animatronics
or something to at least make the aliens larger and more superior,
but hey, Travolta wanted to be the big star.

I'm not religious, and I thought it was an excellent and engaging movie.

The book was trash. I didn't bother with the movie.

I'll certainly get to the movie. I'd read all the Narnia series by the time I was 10 and many times since then. It was a mind blowing and imagination expanding experience for which I have to thank my teacher, Mr Love, who introduced me to them. I never got the sense that it was about religion - just the usual triumph of good over evil - until I read about that aspect later. As an atheist, it makes no difference to me, they are still wonderful tales. In my late-ish 40s I still enjoy them as a way of reliving the wonder of youth and growing up. I've tried to interest my kids, but I can see that only way to get them into the books is for them to see the movie. C'est la vie.

I thought the movie started great, really magical, but then trundled along at a medium pace with no real climax. The battle was uninvolving and when Peter (?) charges and shouts "for Aslan and for Narnia" I realised that I don't care about either. I thought that a shame because it started really promising.

I don't think not having read the book means that I wouldn't care about any of the characters, my mum bawled her eyes out for the last 30 minutes of The Return of the King and she didn't read that either.

On the whole, disappointing.

I think that the movie was great all the way through! Some parts were not the best, but as a whole the movie was a definite 10 on a scale of 1 to 10! When u post a message and u have seen the movie I would like to average out the different ratings everyone gave!? 1 is the worst, 10 is the best, so... rate it! plz =) -Luke
