What would rate as the biggest mistake made by any leader of a country or big organisation?

Emperor Constantine adopting a cult as the primary religion of the Roman Empire rates pretty highly I think.

yeah, that whole 'love thy neighbour' thing doesn't go too well with running an empire - especially if your neighbours are the Visigoths...

speaking of the Romans, i think changing from a republic to an empire was the beginning of the end, so that would be a great mistake by Julius Caesar.

And as of yet no one's mentioned Monica!

I mean, the guy wasn't even drunk!!

Well, I guess it didn't have empire ending consequences, so probably doens't make the list. Still, as far as mistakes go ......

How about the French's brilliant idea of the building the Maginot Line?

Designing it so the Germans couldn't have just simply gone around the side would have helped... 😕

Nixon bugging himself and then forgetting to erase the tape wasn't too smart.

How about stealing taxpayer money then donating it to your own party? Worst thing is they're still gonna win the next election.

the Japanese decision to bomb Pearl Harbour looked successful initially, but of course led to disaster less than four years later.
