Theo Walcott runs down the middle.

So it turns out Erikson has never actually seen Theo Walcott play. It seems to me that the job of an england manager is to go to a few games now and then just to put his face on show, then pick up a paper, read who's good and just pick them. Tell the players to play as they normally do for their club and sit back and say 'meh' when things go wrong. Collect 3 million quids a year.

Bastard 😠
Apparently he went to watch him at Arsenal's training ground.

I think Bent has to go to the World Cup or surely even Defoe over Walcott.

It doesn't make sense.

Then again, England did the same thing to Kevin Phillips when he was top scorer.

10.6sec for 100m is pretty quick, no?

And Theo Walcott plays right wing as often as centre-forward.

Bent has had chances and looked short of international class. Defoe has not been playing well for Tottenham and has also fallen short in England friendlies/qualifiers.

I think Sven has decided that a "Bent and Defoe" England might be a last-eight England, but no more. A "Walcott and Lennon" England might crash out in the group stage - or just might win it. And anyhow, they are only squad players. If they get on, it will be at the end of games when pace (which they both have in bucketloads) can be crucial.

Thank God Sven's finally taking a few risks.

I was in Greece in 2004 when they won it, and the locals seemed to think that in the run up to the Euro, a tremendous team spirit was forged by the coach and that's what led them to the trophy.

Sven hardly did himself any favours there.

Are you supporting England or Italy by the way?

If Rooney's not fit then Defoe will replace him. What's the problem with that? Other than the fact that Wes Brown should be there instead of Campbell (principally because he can cover right back as well) I think it's a decent squad, and certainly not a joke...

But I'm sure Walcott can warm the bench equally as well as Defoe - he's certainly had more practice this season.

Harry Redknapp believes Sven's decision to include Theo Walcott in his World Cup squad "could be a tactical master-stroke".

I think the point is that with all the cover we have, Campbell won't play, so it makes sense that the last few players are regular, established faces, who Sven sees as people who help the team morale. Beckham is playing well for Real Madrid, and is still the best crosser of the ball England have, despite what people think, he should be there, and is. Darren Bent just can't hack it at top-class level, and Defoe looks pretty ordinary to me. I much prefer Ashton.

Most other views I have are in the last post on page 1, no point me posting it again.

he will play 4-5-1 (or 4-3-3 whatever way you look at it) with cole on the left theo on the right (if rooney doesn't play - which he won't) and owen in the centre.

they'll be out by the q finals 🙂
