Gerrard
Carrick
Lampard

Personally I think this a good starting team.
From football365:
* Is the selection of just four strikers, two of whom are injured and another a boy who has never played in the Premiership, confirmation that England will play 4-5-1 this summer?
* Is the possible change in formation also the explanation for the selection of Owen Hargreaves?
* Has there ever been a bigger World Cup squad shock than the selection of Theo Walcott?
* How many times has Sven seen Walcott play, even in training?
* What does it say about international football that a country regarded as one of the favourites to win the World Cup can select a player who hasn’t played for his club‘s first team?
* Would Sven have taken such a “gamble” on Walcott if these finals were his first tournament as England manager rather than his last?
* Was David Dein a consultant in the selection of England’s World Cup squad?
* What justification can there be for friendlies when uncapped players such as Walcott and Aaron Lennon are picked for the World Cup finals? This is a squad which suggests that the friendlies - including last summer’s tour to the U.S - were an utter waste of time.
* Would Stuart Downing have been picked if Wayne Rooney was fit? Sven referred to Joe Cole as a “possible fifth striker” during his press conference, suggesting that the Chelski winger is being ear-marked as a possible replacement for Rooney in the withdrawn striker role.
* If Sven can pick the unfit Rooney as one of four strikers, how can he justify the exclusion of Ledley King in favour of the struggling Sol Campbell given that the Tottenham captain should be fit to return to training within the next two weeks?
* Does Jermain Defoe still feel sick?

What to hell is Eriksson thinking? How can Theo Walcott make the squad before the leading English goalscorer in the premiership, especially considering the fact that 2 of the 4 strikers are currently crocks, and 1 is Crouch.
How can Campbell make the squad ahead of Wes Brown? Brown has been United's best defender this season. Campbell's been rubbish. Brown also supplies excellent cover at right back.

You can always rely on someone to bring up 1966 π
So it turns out Erikson has never actually seen Theo Walcott play. It seems to me that the job of an england manager is to go to a few games now and then just to put his face on show, then pick up a paper, read who's good and just pick them. Tell the players to play as they normally do for their club and sit back and say 'meh' when things go wrong. Collect 3 million quids a year.
