When the seagulls follow the trawler, it is because they think sardines will be thrown into the sea.

Actually it is to get the guts inside the fish the fisherman are cleaning! 🙂

The terms "sardine" and "pilchard" are not precise, and what is meant depends on the region. The United Kingdom's Sea Fish Industry Authority, for example, classifies sardines as young pilchards.[6] One criterion suggests fish shorter in length than 15 cm (6 in) are sardines, and larger fish are pilchards.[7] The FAO/WHO Codex standard for canned sardines cites 21 species that may be classed as sardines.[8] FishBase, a comprehensive database of information about fish, calls at least six species "pilchard", over a dozen just "sardine", and many more with the two basic names qualified by various adjectives.

Thanks for the useless information, much appreciated!

Have you seen my "Did you Know" Thread? Lots more information in there, whether you consider it useless or not, only you can determine.

There's no - or hardly any - information in that thread. There's a tedious amount of links to what might be information elsewhere, but there's next to no information in the thread itself. All it is is clickbait.
