I always thought they were rather mediocre up until they released "O.K Computer" and then things went down hill.

I can't stand their pseudo-depressive lyrics.
Whining bunch of maggots, the lot of them.

Any band that causes such a disparity in opinion is doing something right. I find nearly all modern rock a bore, but they interest me. They have a very alien sound, meaning that they are creating.

Most over-rated crap ever.

Exactly - people seem to love them or hate them, but they are definitely unique and have managed to avoid the annoying pop trend.

I haven't heard the Eraser yet, though, and I hear it's sub-par. ๐Ÿ™

Can you think of a band that doesn't have a disparity in opinion?

All bands are liked by some and disliked by others.

Oh you're not alone in liking them they are the third most listened to band on this website: http://www.last.fm/charts/

I figured other people listened to them - they do tend to sell out every show they play. ๐Ÿ™‚

the best concert i ever seen was when radiohead came to vancouver just before the bends was released. they played an electric set of there pablo honey stuff. then they came out for the encore and played the acoustic stuff off the bends was unreal. and they werent quite big enough to play a huge venue so it was fairly small venue.

I never really heard any of their stuff properly until I won a copy of Hail To The Thief. I thought it was amazing, and over time I went back and got all the earlier albums.

They're all good except for the first one, which is mediocre at best. Hail To The Thief and OK Computer are probably my favourites.

The lyrics have nothing to do with it. The reason they impress me is their ability to create a huge variety in their sound and be totally convincing in the different styles. Very few bands have the imagination to do that, let alone the ability to make it work.

i'm surprised Starrman hasn't leapt in yet to defend their honour...

they have their sublime moments, i think, but plenty of mediocre ones too...

That's what I love - with other bands I may like their sound for a while, but after some time it might get worn out. I mean a lot of Coldplay's stuff sounds pretty much the same - and it can really take away from their overall appeal. Everything with Radiohead is different. (I haven't actually heard Pablo Honey because of the reviews...)

First I heard OK Computer, and it's probably the most complete album, then Kid A - which took some time to get used to, but now may be my favorite. Followed by HTTT which is insane, a totally different sound from the first two I heard and Greenwood even sings a couple. Amnesiac followed, which took even more listens than Kid A, but I'm quite fond of now - I heard Pyramid Song in my car the other day and couldn't stop thinking about how amazing it was. And about 2 months ago my friend burnt me The Bends, which I enjoyed thoroughly from the first listen, which generally isn't the case with Radiohead. Needless to say all of these albums have totally different sounds.

back when creep came out i thought oh yeah one-hit wonder and kind of just ignored them for a while. then one day i was listening to a compilation cd that had paranoid android on it, and that line 'when i am king you will be first against the wall' surprised me and caught my attention - i still remember the momen, i was working on my pc, not really listening - and i bought ok computer on the strength of that.
