Wouldn't the pilot and the seat land as the same time - I remember that video in Science of the watermelon and the grape hitting the ground at the same time when dropped from the same height...

EDIT: Actually, having thought about it for a few seconds, if the pilot has a parachute and the seat doesn't, the seat will fall to the ground first.

But actually, it is to keep the moving mass as one, so the seat doesn't go through the pilot's ass after ejection, I think?

No good if its in your spy mobile though.. looks a bit obvious. You would need the seat belt to reamin attached to the column of the car as a normal seatbelt would be. Otherwise would be enemies would spot it a mile off.

It would be even more obvious if it had a manual over-ride to switch it off for the baby seat. Women pilots would give it away.......
