That was a brilliant series.
I sent the 3 CD's off to a friend in the States. She was well impressed!

I found the music a little too old, but some classics like "Dem Bones" quite amused me.

Probably the best thing ever written. Very, very few people are not impressed by it.

The music is supposed to be old, even for the period in which the drama is set. Remember, these are the songs that the central character keeps recalling from childhood.

And these songs have a more powerful effect on the listener after watching the series. It's almost impossible to listen to them without conjuring up those scenes with which they're each associated.

(Further edit: Let's have a minute's silence and think of those who have not seen, and indeed may never see, Dennis Potter's masterpiece.)

The scene when the old guy to the right is remembering raping the German women and then suffers the heart-attack.
And the smile on Gambon's (Marlow's) face as he realises he's yet again talked someone to death.

Bloody excellent.
Horrible wife though.

I don't mean to advocate illegal activities but in theory you could, although I am not recommending it for legal reasons. I have a feeling it is fine if you own the DVD.

Music though (I deal in albums, not songs)
Megadeth - Rust In Peace
Buena Vista Social Club
Mr. Bungle - Mr. Bungle
Opeth - Deliverance and/or Damnation (a kind of double album)
Pearl Jam - Ten

I will leave it at that for now.

I thought this was a thread for people to recommend music that would suit other users.

Bowmann- "I love to hate you" (You're gonna like Erasure)

Nordlys - Anything by Kraftwerk

Darvlay - He has already found a brand of music that suits him. The following are lyrics he quoted during a game:
"There are ten sticks of dynamite... Waiting for you... They'll cover your eyes... They'll muffle your ears.... They'll shut your f***ing mouth... They'll shut your f***ing mouth..." (nomeansno)

err nuff said.

Nyxie - Dana (or Dana International)

I don't see your point here.

But I'm well aware that The Singing Detective (1986) is available as Torrents and can be downloaded by those with the means and know-how. (Interesting that it's much harder to find one for the Hollywood film which is, in all probability, crap.)

However, it's also quite easy to buy the DVD set. I got it for £4.99, delivered. This has to be the best value for money I've seen to date.

That may be because the post is not aimed at you. If you look at the part of your post I have quoted it is aimed at people who have not seen The Singing Detective. All I am saying is that it would be possible for them to download it.

£4.99 is very reasonable and I would assume that on the rating on imdb alone it would be worth that price. Although it may not be an option for everyone. Not sure where you found it for that price though.

Hey, don't be knockin' Kraftwerk ya Kraftwerk knocker!

Check out the song "She's a Model" and then listen to any UK/Manchester band of the 80's that you still listen to. Might as well be a prequel.

I don't take kindly to having anything 'aimed' at me.

Indeed, it does appear to have the highest-rated entry on IMDb and in terms of the price, it varies enormously. Some charge around £40. I bought it from BlahDVD for, as I say, a fiver.
