Just installed my copy of Visual Studio - and recompiled Red Hot Pawn Live. I forgot how much work I had done on this (I did work on it nearly every night for about 3 months over the summer of 2002) - I'm really rather pleased I took a look again today - it is rather good! 😏
And it does work as is. The one problem that remained was that old game offers never get expired if they don't get accepted within a reasonable period.
I just a had a laugh though, fired it up, and looked for a game, and the one game offer sitting there still is:
Game number : 70,
Host : T1000,
Created : 2002-08-23.
I hope he still isn't waiting.
Anyway, I shall fix that now. (A server side fix - so if you downloaded this before, it will still work) I will change it so that a game offer will only sit there for 1 hour before it expires.
Anyway, it would be great to build up a user base for this again – and that will encourage me to get it enhanced and promoted. It was very stupid of me to stop developing it when I did (99% complete!!!! 😕 ) – but to be honest, the enthusiasm I had for it lead to me revamping the RHP web site. The main site had remained without any major enhancements for quite a long time prior to about September ’02.
I digress. If you want to get started with RHP Live, download from here….
http://www.redhotpawn.com/rhplive/
You will need Microsoft .Net runtimes installed, but most Windows users should have that by now – so download RHPLive, try to run it, and see what happens. If it doesn’t work, use your Windows update and select .Net runtimes as an option to install. This will be very useful for another quick project I am starting tonight – so even if you don’t want to use RHP Live, please consider getting the .Net runtimes anyway.
Good luck!

I've been checking that daily for the last 400 days y'know 😉
Anyways, super news that it's complete. I'll be around in a couple of hours if anyone wants a game.

I will try to work that one out.
I am running my rebuilt version - so maybe I should upload that. I'll post back my findings in 10 minutes.
I have just fixed the server side stuff to clear old games. (I think I have anyway - in an hour I will find out for sure).

Ok, the stuff that I uploaded last year still works just fine in its current state. I will try it on a spare XP machine I have in a minute.
BUT this might be the problem for some. Make sure you extract all the code into a sensible folder. Do not drag and drop from winzip - it will not recreate the folder hierarchy if you do this - and then you will get exceptions when you try to run it. (Basically, all the images have to be living in an ‘images’ sub directory. At a later date, if this gets enough interest to warrant spending more time on it, I will build a proper installer - so it is will become just a simple click and go.

Ok, I have a spare machine for my wife - and because that has XP Home on it, and I think I can see what the problem is.
XP supports zip folders (compressed folders) - so you can browse zip folders and run files in almost the same way as any other folder. But it does not work in this case.
Clicking the RHPLive.zip file you downloaded will display a folder - but in the top left hand corner, you will notice the icon has a ‘zip’ on it.
So you must create a new folder somewhere (your desktop?) - and drag (copy) ALL the files from the downloaded zip folder to the new one.
And then double click the rhplive.exe in your new folder. It will thenwork ok. No, really, it will. 😉
