I had someone recommend Mensa to me when I considered studying in London, because he thought it might be easier to get to know people that way. Among other things they have special interest groups, and in times before the internet it would not have been easy to find people who share the same unusual interest some other way.

So why have you listed it in your reasons to join?
Mensa has special interest groups, that go beyond the typical saturday brunches and lameasss pamphlet folding parties. I have an interest in special things. Combine it with people who already share a common thread (high iq) and bam, interest peaked.
Nothing is wrong with looking for like-minded people.
Where do you look pap?

I find like-minded people for some subjects everywhere. All you need to do is do things related with those subjects and voila! people who like those subjects will be there.
Is it that hard?
