I understand that yes, 1 in 50=2 in 100=2%.
It's a ploy to make people think, "Wow, I may be the one out of 50."
Sounds "closer".
I just thought that the sentence sounded funny.
Calm down, you don't have to defend yourself.

I am wondering how Mensa determines that only the top 2% in IQ of the world are eligible for membership to Mensa. I am sure they give the applicants an IQ test. But are they basing that percentage on those who apply to Mensa? Because how would they know what the top 2% were if very few apply. I mean it seems to me there may be a misconception based on t ...[text shortened]... tion that have higher IQ's that just don't bother. Is there anything flawed with this thought?

I'm just saying I wasn't. I'm neither endorsing it or attacking it.
Originally posted by PalynkaIt depends on what you actually meant by "the other way round". I took it to mean "If you are Mensa you have to be ridiculous", which may not have been the intended meaning. My statement wasn't really meant as a provocation, it was more an expression of annoyance about your playing stupid and sarcastically attributing it to your non-membership (this may not make much sense, but I hope you understand what I mean).
How is pointing out that it works the other way around implies all Mensans are ridiculous then? It doesn't really matter, though. Your statement was a provocation and so was mine.
As for valuing intelligence in my human relations, well...so do I. However, we are talking about IQ tests and, specifically, a sentence that people interact with more ease aroun ...[text shortened]... hat you can interact with a group of people is a repulsive idea to me. That is all.
We don't all and always have easy access to interesting people. If you are an outgoing person in an environment where you have the opportunity to meet lots of different people, Mensa would probably be completely superfluous. If you are like me, you don't get to know people "just so". I need something to start with, so special interest groups make a lot of sense to me. I use other channels than Mensa, but I can see why Mensa can be helpful for some people.
I wonder if you are just as much against groups which are exclusively for musicians of a certain level, chess players, autistic people or fat people?
