Phibes was a cultured sophisticate and dedicated lover; he was of course deeply centred on and absorbed by his relationship with Vulnavia and like all Shakespearean style love yarns his passion was quickly turned to hatred and revenge once she was inexplicably dispatched by some theatrical bad-guy surgeon. Not sure if you ever watched the movies? He is one of my favourite horror characters of the 1970s and course played to perfection by the wonderful and greatly lamented Vincent Price.
