Please don't vote for your own entries. Voting is obligatory for everybody who has entered this round, and it would be much appreciated if everybody who plans to enter future rounds would vote in this round as well. And of course any other votes are very welcome, too!
Voting will close on Sunday, 6 November, 20 UT. Please don't discuss the pictures before the voting is over. If you have questions, complaints or ideas, send me a PM. You can also contact me at rhpphotocomp@gmail.com
I'll write a separate post about upcoming rounds and how to enter.
Here's a list of upcoming rounds (changes are possible):
9. People
10. Urban
11. Humour
12. Chess
13. Still Life (an arrangement of inanimate objects)
14. Extended Exposure
15. Movement/Motion
16. Home (can be in your home, or just in the locallity that u would regard as home)
17. Words (?)
You can send up to three entries per round. Pictures should be submitted to rhpphotocomp@gmail.com . I'll need the following information:
* Title
* Comment (optional)
* Which round the picture is meant for. I would prefer to only get pictures for the next upcoming round, but it's possible to send in pictures for future rounds, for example if you know you'll be away.
* Your RHP nickname (that won't be revealed before the round is over)
Please keep the file size under 200 kB, and the picture shouldn't be bigger than 1024x768 (I'd suggest 800x600). I will resize pictures which don't meet these criteria, which means more work for me and less control over the outcome for you.
You can choose to have your pictures removed when the round is over. You can also choose to leave them there, but have your name (real name or RHP nick) added.
1st - 10 pts - 25. Stormy Weather

Excellent round. One of the first times I've really wanted an extra couple of votes. Its great to see that it seems to be wide open as well. 🙂

I'm just wondering, after a short scan, whether photoshop enhancements are allowed, this is the first round I've taken part in and it seems to me a lot of the images have been altered in photoshop. I'm just asking if this is alright?

Likewise.

It is problematic, however, to draw a clear line between what is a "pure" photograph, and what is a "photoshopped" one. I try to limit myself to what I can reproduce in the darkroom and I can make a print myself of every image I enter in this competition, I can make a print myself. But those are my limits.
I do like to know what has been done to an image though, but for voting, I try to judge the image as it is presented.

I use corel photopaint suite 12 in some way on 80% of my photography. it is totally acceptable in photo clubs and society competitions as it is just a digital darkroom. These days most people declare photos are original. To be an original in BW the camera must have been set to BW when the image was taken (strict rule in certain comps to illiminate those just take bad shots on dull days and think they'd be okay bw's.) Most high contrast BWs and soft sepias these days are manipulated that way..
Originally posted by Tirau DanCome to think of it, I don't think saying photoshop or similar programs are just a digital darkroom doesn't say much about what you see as a "original" ( I assume you mean unmanipulated?) photograph, and what as a manipulated one. But neither does my 'i can do it in my darkroom' criterium. You can do a lot of stuff in the darkroom, often resulting in images I would definitely call manipulated.

My own new and personal definition of an unmanipulated image: the result of a single exposure, with only adjustments in contrast and use of dodging and burning.

We had a lengthy discussion about this a few rounds back.
(You'll have to weed through a lot of unrelated posts, though. And there are some references to pictures which may be hard to find.)
