Can I just point out that this is one of the few, if not the only, thread that actually has some meaning to it in this forum. Why can't there be more productive threads like this, that involve and engage people in creative activities? Pity I'm a crap photographer. πŸ™

EDIT: If I get my hands on a scanner though, I may post a couple of entries though. πŸ™‚

Ah, in that case, I didn't understand what you said before. Anyway, I sent images of about 100-150KB and they end up 20-30KB in the albums. That' quite a lot of bytes that go missing.

It can't have to do with size restrictions, because some pictures in the albums are bigger than some of the originals which end up much smaller (um, was that comprehensible? ).
Every picture has been shrunk in file size. The version I have of SunShower is 2MB, but on webshots its only 133kb. πŸ™

I don't know why they do that??? Maybe because I have a free account??? I'll read up on it Sunday.

Jim, you're more than welcome to vote, even if you haven't entered a pic.

πŸ˜‰ What I meant is this: There are pictures with well over 100 kB in the comp albums, but if you send in a picture which has less than 100 kB to start with, it will still be shrunk, so it can't be because the file was too big.

Ah ok, thanks for spelling it out for me πŸ™‚

So I guess we have to make sure to send large enough files, so that the compression gets done by Webshots. Won't it be a problem for you, Ragnorak, when we all send you 2MB files?

2 MB does sound a bit big, though. Not everybody has broadband, and besides, the webshots site is often very slow, so it wouldn't be much fun to wait for a 2 MB picture. And it shouldn't be necessary to have so big files if the pictures are just for viewing on the screen. I always try to get below 200 kB, usually well below that. Some pictures look just fine with only 50 kB, some may need around 150 kB.

No problems with using mine if you wish to, though I agree with the others that they have lost some quality. Webshots is still pretty amazing considering its a free service, so can't grumble too much.

edit PS.. Getting ahead ... Rag, what is expected for poverty? Many ...[text shortened]... please. It's one round I wouldn't want to get completely wrong
I'm not entirely sure, TBH.

I've never done anything like this, and when I came up with the rounds, I basically just went through my photos, and figured out rounds to suit some of my pics. Probably not the best way to do it, but hey?

Basically, I've got a pic of a run down house, where its clear the people are pretty impoverished, but the surroundings make you think, "sure they may be poor in materialistic possessions, but look where they live"

Does anybody have any pics that might fit the "Poverty" round?

D

[EDIT] Just looking at flickr, searching for "poverty", I realise that this round is definitely doable. Check out this pic (especially the eyes and hands)...http://www.flickr.com/photos/lorrainemd/32597675/

Instead of just being a picture, its an image which can be powerful in its own way by spreading the plight of poverty, rather than ridiculing it. That's kind of what I'm hoping for in this round.

I'd love to vote, but I'm sure that my old monitor does the pictures no justice. I could take a picture of my computer trying its best to display one of this round's subissions for the poverty round. Joking aside, nice work all around.

7. Poverty??? (I'd like this to be more of an exploration of what may be conceived as poverty, rather than 'Look, there's a crap house, with poor people sitting outside. Quick, lets huck rocks at them'πŸ˜‰ I'll leave it up to your own discretion
8. Self
9. Black and Whit ...[text shortened]... , or just in the locallity that u would regard as home)

Nope (I am sure I'd have noticed πŸ™‚ ).
