And always with me. Though I do have to spend a lot time
convincing players on CF that grades, especialy on here are nothing but
mere numbers that can change from day to day, hour by hour.

I stopped playing over 2000 players when 6 of the 9 I played got banned.
I ha being banned,
you enjoy freeze your genitals

(Have you considerd marrying an Eskimo?)
So, in other words you don't know who Kevin Spragett is? 😉

I certainly wouldn't have a problem with an Eskimo if circumstances were different.

I don't believe the better half would be overly thrilled with your suggestion.

Do you really think people enjoy being banned? Do you think that there is some kind of a competition to see who get banned the most?

Why do you think they bothered with the 🙂 😉 , if not to use them?

Perhaps you don't see North American humour. I know some have trouble seeing British (United Kingdom) humour. It is a two way street in the humor/humour department for sure. 😛

Hi VR

Of course I've heard of Kevin Spragett he was active in my day.
these retired guys do make perfect and excellent coaches. (if they can teach)

Teaching is in itself an art form. it's no accident that one of the best writers
on the game for the student was Fred Reinfeld, a teacher by trade.

And the best chess book written for that class of player;
"The Most Instructive Games of Chess ' was written by non GM by Irving Chernev

Again you are cutting yourself off by restricting yourself to a 4 digit number.
You cannot put a number on a brain.

I get this all the time in the Chess Forum.
Guys emptying their bladders everytime Carlsen's grade goes up by 5 points.

Here: Very Rusty is now graded 2575.

...he's gone.....Rusty has fainted.....

(ten minutes later)

Ah you are back....good....for a minute there I thought I had gone too far.

My only coach never raised himself above 1800 but he knew what he
on about. I owe him a lot.

GM Rowson says his best coach was a 1300 player who words of advice
he can still hear when playing. (see his book Zebras)

Drag you weary butt out of here and come visit the Chess Forum.
Learn more about the game from hackers and slackers.
(actually there are some lads on the ball in there)

Two choices:

Go there and emrace the new you with eyes wide and an open mind.

Or stay here and stick your nuts in the fridge.

Meanwhile....here it comes Rusty......Duck.

PM User 408178 he's 1478 he can show you
how to mate with a Bishop and a Knight. Game 4133038

You're boring me, repeating everything you have already said.

Of course Kevin Spragett would make a good teacher, there is not doubt in my mind about it. How many times have you beaten Kevin?

I was 11 last time I fainted funny man..2575, when is the last time you reached that?

So, your coach was 1800...Just think if he had been 2500+ you may have been world Chess Champ! 😛 I think GM Rowson lied, or you are now. 😉

IF I wanted a teacher I would get one, sorry to burst your bubble but it wouldn't be you or a lowly 1478 player either.

I think you are your own best fan!!! 😉

Carry on, and stop trying to give bad advice! 😛

Why would you suggest anyone stick their nuts in the fridge? Are you talking peanunts, walnuts? I don't think you put nuts in fridge, you're a weird little fellow. 😛

I have to repeat everything I've said, it's not sinking in.

I learned on the Religious Forum a long time ago
that you cannot argue with a closed mind and yet still I try.

Why do I bother....

Now of course I'm wondering why you fainted when you were 11.

Only clue is a Canadian flag.....

You saw a bear?
A tree nearly fell on you?
Someone swore at you in French?
Your first hot meal?

That lowly 1478 player knows how to mate with a Bishop & Knight.
I think that proves a very boring point.

You repeat, just for the sake of repeating, or you don't have anything new to say. Most likely the latter would be correct.

excuse me if I find it boring, at least I am honest about it.

You don't answer one question, but expect your questions answered. That is not how it works over here, my little friend across the water. 😉

You could care about why I fained when I was 11 about as much as you could, what time I might be going to retire this evening? Just a chance to throw dumb questions I guess for you. I see nothing else it accomplished.

Again how many times have you beat Kevin & when was the last time you reached 2575?
I think you meant the king bishop and knight. 😉

Answer your question. It's a silly question.
You brought in Kevin out of thin air. I never mentioned him at all?

Cannot see the point as you are convinced soley on the fact
Kevin was a good player that he will be a good teacher.

Not always the case that one follows the other.
(However in my experience you can learn a lot from these older retired guys.)

I fail to see your point, but I'll play along...

I've never played Kevin, highest OTB grade 2210.
First ever grade was 1720 (same as Fischer)
Second Grade was 1840 (same as Fischer)
Third grade was 1910.....er.......OK forget these comparisons.
Current grade 2001.

That's a national hard earned grade, not one of these nonsense FIDE grades.

(an ungraded player who is willing to pay a vast entrance fee can enter
a FIDE tournament and they get a provo grade of 2200 - it's a joke).

I have a FIDE grade but I have no idea what it is. 2030 something like that.
I don't really care.

Now how many chess lessons have you had from Kevin?
see how silly it's getting?

Still no excuse as to why you failed to mate with B & N.
Maybe Kevin can help. If not I know a 'lowly' 1478 who can.

Well sometimes he can - he apears to have forgotten.
This lad has 700 games on the go, he's mad.

I asked you if you knew Kevin and if you had played him. Obviously he was above your rating level. That is really all you had to say, instead of sing and dance around the topic. 😉

Kevin achieved a higher rating than you, but you have your doubts it seems if he would be a better teacher...LOL...Yet, you are ok with 1100 players writing chess books. You do have a different way of looking at things.

So, are you now telling me you are/were as good a player as Fischer? I notice you comparing yourself to him at his lower level ratings. 😉

Mating with bishop and knight? I believe you need your king along for the ride don't you? Chase the king to the same corner colour of you bishop. I told you I often lose interest in won games, especially if they don't count for anything.

Why do you lose any games at chess, blunders! You make them the same as everyone else. Won games can often be the hardest ones to win.

Yes, I still think Kevin would be a better teacher than you. I don't have any doubts about that. 😉

You lost me, who had 700 games on the go?...

Sigh....(though I guess I'm having fun).

I did not sing and dance around the question I just could not see the point.
It was liking asking a war vetran how many people he shot in the war.

"Obviously he was above your rating level....."

You are totally overcome with with numbers.

I would not have looked at his grade had we played and I would have gone
into the game with every expectation of winning. I always did and I always do.

I did not doubt if he would be a good a teacher I even hedged a bet saying
he could be.

But your total fixation with numbers convinces you he is.
I say a good player does always make a good a teacher.

Some of the GM's and IM's I know are not very good at explaing things.
Some are excellent, some, by their own admission, are not.

(naturally gifted players seem to find it hard to explain things to a lower level.
They never went through the learning grind and so don't know how to
put across something they never had to do. Not their fault).

You are jumping all over the place.
Nowhere here have I claimed to be a teacher or coach.
So where this:

"I still think Kevin would be a better teacher than you...."

came from I have no idea.

My comparison to Fischer was a coincidence. (he was 8 or 9 I think when he
got his first grade - I was a bit older...quite a bit older - though we did match
up twice, then we went in opposite directions).

But as I never added a smiley I guess that was another that has gone
over your head. (it was a joke).

A King is always on the board so when I say B & N, the King is there,
it has to be there It's part of the rules. (really it's like talking to a child).

"I told you I often lose interest in won games...."

Well you carried on trying to mate him in the wrong corner for 44 moves.

Was it around about move 45 you lost interest?

If you had follwed the link you would have seen it's Zenic
who has 700+ games on the go. The 1478 player who can mate
with a B & N (and King) v a lone King. (sometimes).

Zorro the Fox User 193938 is the guy you want to contact.
Twice he has had the lone King and drew and one clinical win with
the KING N & B v lone King.
His current grade is 1592 (100 more than Christopher Columbus). 🙂

-VR Yes, of course you are having fun. You love to banter!

-VR Yes, you were kind'a dancing around the question. Took be 3 times asking before you finally decided to not ignore the question. 😉

You are totally overcome with with numbers.

I would not have looked at his grade had we played and I would have gone
into the game with every expectation of winning. I always did and I always do.

-VR If you were playing Kevin S. you would know around what his rating was anyways. I am sure back in the day, he was one of the players you watched closely. Not to say you would admit if you did.

I did not doubt if he would be a good a teacher I even hedged a bet saying
he could be.

But your total fixation with numbers convinces you he is.

-VR Your total disreguard for numbers is what amazes me. Some one with a 2500+ rating is certainly more knowledge than the 2000-2200 player. Plus has proven so in game tournaments.

Some of the GM's and IM's I know are not very good at explaing things.
Some are excellent, some, by their own admission, are not.

-VR I think it is more the case where they have no interest what so ever in teaching. I am sure this is what they told you though. 😉

Now it was a joke...LOL....I probably couldn't tell from the tone of your typed words. 😉

A King is always on the board so when I say B & N, the King is there,
it has to be there It's part of the rules. (really it's like talking to a child).

-VR What you said is mating with a Bishop & Knight. What you should have said is mating with a King, Bishop and Knight. (So, a child, or player that didn't know would know exactly what you meant, would understand.)

"I told you I often lose interest in won games...."

Well you carried on trying to mate him in the wrong corner for 44 moves.

Was it around about move 45 you lost interest?

-VR So, I am not the only one with a fixation with numbers. Is there a certain number one has to play before they CAN become bored with a game? Do you have a rule for this? I am not even exactly sure which game you're even talking about now!

OH my good Friend Zorro, yes we have played 48 games. I have been very fortunate with a 26/11/11 against my old friend. Always a very tough opponent, & probably closer to a 1700 player than his current rating. He carries a poop load of games pretty consistantly too boot.

I think he will understand if I pass on taking lessons from him!

I never realised there was a question for me to ignore till you
kept bringing him into the conversation.

"So you don't know who Kevin Spragett is?"

I ignored you calling me and GM Rowson liars. I gnored most other things.

"If you were playing Kevin S. you would know around what his rating was..."

No. it's you who worship the numbers. Most players know they mean
nothing once the first pawn is pushed.

"...anyways. I am sure back in the day, he was one of the players
you watched closely. "

To be honest No. I cannot recall any game of his.

Miles, Short, Nunn and Mestal were the good guys whose games you followed.
So if he played one of those lads then I would have seen a Spragett game.

I did play over every Lawrence Day game I could find maybe a Spragett
game v Day slipped in there.

"So, a child, or player that didn't know would know exactly what you
meant, would understand."

Sorry , thought I was dealing with an adult. 😏 (definetly a 1-0 there).

The tournamentt game you lost interest in Game 4133038.

In the CF is a thread of excuses chess players make.
losing interest in winning a won tournament game is not amongst them.

I credited you with more imagination than that.

"I wanted to see if I could mate him in the wrong corner."
(it can be done but requires a mistake by the lone King).

I'd have accepted that.

But then I would have thought of those precious grading points you were
trying to win for 44 moves and 16 days.
Which is kind of long time to be playing on uninterested.

Me when I'm wrong. I say I'm wrong or I don't know.
You should just say you goofed it and but learned a lesson.
-----------------------------

Well Rusty - it's 5:30am where I am so I am hitting the hay.
Have work today (3pm to midnight). as always been good fun.
Rather tedious for the other GF guys.

But as we did not get interupted I guess they are off finding new
things to do with their genitals.

Certainly an odd bunch of people here. (I feel kind of at home)..

OH, I remember that game now with Zorro, it was a nothing game. I just decided to take a draw, there was a lot of moves to be made yet. Getting the win gave me nothing. 😉 I pretty much blitzed it for many moves, making I am sure a ton of errors!!!

It was mostly Rowson I may have indicated may not have been telling the truth, but if you want to include yourself, I don't have a problem with that!

So, what you are telling me is you're old now, and you really don't recall having seen Kevin S. games or not, that is suprising being he was in the 2400-2500 range...LOL...Anything is possible I am sure.

Just admit you said it wrong, it isn't a Bishop and knight mating a king! It is a King, bishop and Knight mating a lone King. VR 1 GP 0

I have many games going in that 16 days period not just the lone one. I was possibly over 200 games when that one was played don't know for sure but it doesn't matter, I didn't lose, it was a draw!! That means 1/2 1/2 😉

We didn't get interupted because of the time of day it is. Yes, get yourself some shut eye there GP. Always nice bantering with you. I am sure they will rip one of us apart while we are not on. 😉 Odds are ten to one it will be me if anyone!

Talking about an Odd Bunch, what is any more ODD than Chess Players? 😉
I mean look at us, and our silly bantering over a drawn game, that could have been a win, I will admit. 😛 Now are you happy!

If my mother was still alive, she'd say "stop being so childish or I'll bang your heads together!" and I wouldn't blame her.

The sight of two grown men going on like this makes me embarrassed to be in the same place as the two of you. Greenpawn, you should know by now that the General Forum is the place for drivel, reasoned argument (and chess) doesn't belong in here. Even if both participants are using reason, which clearly isn't the case.

I don't call this rubbish "banter", I call it "rubbish".

HI Kewp.

Just got up to read me my emails to find out where I have to show my
pretty face today.

Spot on - load of utter drivel. but this is the place we are allowed to put it.

(don't blame me - blame the blitz site, it was empty)

Seen enough of his games to see there is this good player wanting
to get out and I did try to get him to leave here to go to the CF

But he cannot admit he's wrong and trying to twist opponents
good moves into bad moves is not the way.

You have tp admit to yourself right away you have made a bad move and
not spend the rest of the game trying to justify it.

You have to answer an opponents good moves with good moves.

That is today's free advice which is not too bad considering I am
just out of bed.

Cheers.
