For those of you who don't know, I'm a valet at a Country Club. I've seen and driven some pretty nice cars - Ford GTs, Corvettes ('62-Present), plenty of Porsches, etc.. But today there was a car that topped all of those - at least in price, the Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren:

This car's just stupidly expensive. Anyhow, we got really busy really fast, I asked this guy what he had and he pointed to the Mclaren, then sort of looked at me and said... "Where's uh..." Clearly he didn't want me to drive it, so I didn't My co-worker who's in college went and got the car, but I heard plenty of rich bastards making comments like "Look at that kid, let's see if he can even figure out how to start it." He did, even though I'm sure those guys couldn't have. If you're going to buy a $650,000+ car and then drive it to a place where there's valet parking, you'd better expect to let somebody else drive it without qualms or park it yourself. It's all about impressing people to these guys, but seriously - $600,000? That's insane.

I drove one of those in Grand Turismo, I think. It was sweet.

I looked inside - I don't get why it's so expensive - the GT was cooler.

BTW, the Mclaren was auto. I figured it only came in manual.

This has nothing to do with cars but I have an aunt who owns an antique furniture store, much of which is either donated or is picked up from a city dump or something and refurbished. What is strange is most of the stuff is pretty nice stuff, but occasionally she will have trouble selling some particular item for whatever reason. She has tried marking the items down for quick sale and she would usually have to practically give the stuff away. Well, one day for a joke she decided she would dramatically increase the price and suddenly someone thinks they are getting some really top notch piece of furniture that they can brag about to all their rich friends. If they only knew. Well, she does this pretty often now and it has been working for her. It is hard to figure out a buyers mind. Some people just like to pay more I suppose.

Don't forget, you gotta have money to show it off. And those who don't have it sit around and talk about how stupidly insane the rich guys are....

600,00? Thats tip of the iceburg for some cars. Look up the Ferrari Enzo.... only 399 cars made, base price(comes with a steering wheel only, yes I am serious) is 600,000.

I am really sorry if I offended you with my hesitation.

Nothing personal, it's just that I love my car, you see.

maclaren F1 - only 64 road cars ever built, 100 in total. now there is a car i would be happy to drive any day...

(albeit i have never actually had a driving lesson in my life...but i would be happy to have a lesson in one of them, if anyone was offering?)

Some people have more money than sense. 600K? He could have bought something really nice for 50k, a big-oh home for half a mil, and still have $50,000 left for something frivolous. What a doosh.

Anyone who is going to pay 600k for a car has millions probably into the 100s of millions. He already has the nice house etc etc. And honestly, when you get to that much money... what else are you going to do with it?
