Perhaps the male had been out to the pub and...well๐. Check the nest carefully to see if there are any eggs. If there are (probably 3 maybe 4) they should hatch about 2 weeks after being laid.

Wait till the male is minding the eggs (they do on rare occasions) it may recognize you as a female and get off the nest to "strut his stuff" to impress you. ๐ Just kidding, try to see when the nest is parentless, don't touch the eggs they may abandon them and and build another nest and lay another clutch.
