Try key word search "Kevin Budden". He was killed by a taipan while he was trying so hard to collect one or some for a antivenin to help save the lives of those that would be invenomated by a taipan. At that time there was no antivenin for taipan venom.

Let me tell you something that black peoples know all too well. When you see something in the wild that makes your heart beat faster, you run. You get out of there. If there's something that makes you think twice about steppin closer, you get the hell out of there. If you see something that is reptilian in nature and has a mouth bigger than yo head, g ...[text shortened]... at the 100 meters?
It was all preventable. He had to live out his life as a boy with ADHD.
I feel sorry for his kids most of all - I saw an replay of an interview he did here on a show called 'Enough Rope' (the host is a guy called Andrew Denton, who is a brilliant interviewer) before the birth of his son, and it sounded like he was really close to his daughter. Also, i have to say that i came to appreciate the guy more having seen the interview. Apparently he used a lot of the money he made from TV etc to buy large tracts of land to be set aside as wildlife habitat preserves.
How many people get to wrestle crocs before they die? He probably packed more into his 45 years than most people who reach 90...
It was just a matter of time ,the old saying play with fire and you will get burnt ,this guy was an idiot in the way he carried on ,in no way did he portray normal Aussies ,he was a total wacker .
As the above post says i also feel sorry for his wife (terri) and two young children (Bindi and Bob) who have to continue thier lives without a husband and father ,just cause he couldn't grow up ,the worst thing about it is he was probably doing something or trying to do something to that ray cause they do not attack for no reason .He was obviously to close to the ray in the first place (1 metre at max) .
Doing a documentary on deadly sea animals he was probably trying to grab the rays barb to show it off telling everyone how dangerous it is .
You will never see the video of the incident cause it will show him doing something he probably wasn't supposed to be doing .
It is a tradgedy that he died but common sense should come into the equation somewhere .
Originally posted by boarmanHow would you know whether or not he was 'trying to grab the ray's barb'? Sounds like mindless speculation on your part.

He was (according to all the news reports over the last 24 hours or so) extremely careful in what he did and displayed as much 'common sense' as could be expected considering his job.

For the ray to get him with the barb meant he was no more than a metre from it as the bull ray can not flick its tail more than the metre .
If you had seen some of his stuff you might of heard him say that he wanted to let one of those big rays pull him through the water .
Do you believe everything that you hear in the news ?
Did you see the time he was bitten by the snake ?,not much common sense shown there .
Originally posted by boarmanAs a matter of fact, no, I don't believe everything I hear on the news - occasionally news reports get it right, though. But of course, I guess you have the 'real' story of what went down, right?"

A bull ray can't flick its tail more than a metre? He was hoping to get pulled along by some ray ... presumably big ... and it can't flick its tail more than a metre??
Yeah right - go on believing what you will boorman.
What happened with the snake? Are you saying the fact that he got bitten shows a lack of common sense?

And i never said to be pulled along by the tail ,you can grab one of their flaps and get pulled and remain out of the tails reach .
With the snake he was mucking around with it and it bit him ,you really should know a bit more of this bloke before you go off about stuff .Yes i am saying that what he did with the snake showed no common sense at all,or he was not using it ,Steve did want the best effects he could get with his shows and if that meant stirring up deadly creatures then thats what he did (not much common sense eh)
So you keep talking to your trees and you'll be right .
Sad, sad day. Scoff all you want, but I've been privvy to that final footage. Steve (and I can call him Steve ) did an incredibly stupid thing, on impulse, as was his nature and he miscalculated.
Boarmans' post is not to far from what occurred. That species of ray has a strike of only half a metre. Steve just got too personal. Bloody stupid.
