I've never heard anyone complain about it when it's happened 😉

Sad, sad day. Scoff all you want, but I've been privvy to that final footage. Steve (and I can call him Steve ) did an incredibly stupid thing, on impulse, as was his nature and he miscalculated.

Boarmans' post is not to far from what occurred. That species of ray has a strike of only half a metre. Steve just got too personal. Bloody stupid.

Michelle D.
I would ask that you substantiate your claim that you knew Steve personally. I typically try to stay out of your drama, but, this is quite the claim to make.

May God rest him, and give strength to those he left behind.

I say he was a great character who did so much good work. Respected the world over.

May he rest in peace. Such a wonderful human and really the funniest glorified zookeeper I've ever had the pleasure of watching on TV. The world is now a boring place without you, Stevie-boy.

Tastefully put.

The bloke was straight up and down. What you see is what you got.
Sometimes we Aussies had a bit of cultural cringe about his stereotyping us and our wanting to be seen as not so red neck, but the Croc Hunter lived his passion. It was animals, and not the cuddly kind.
Australia and the world is a poorer place with out his infectious enthusiasm and without his larger than life presence.
All the best to his family.

I thought of Steve Irwin as a Herpetologist and a great guy. I never thought of him as a red neck. P.S. His death makes me feel like I have taken a loss.

It was just a matter of time ,the old saying play with fire and you will get burnt ,this guy was an idiot in the way he carried on ,in no way did he portray normal Aussies ,he was a total wacker .
As the above post says i also feel sorry for his wife (terri) and two young children (Bindi and Bob) who have to continue thier lives without a husband and father ...[text shortened]... .

It is a tradgedy that he died but common sense should come into the equation somewhere .
Police today drew the following conclusions from the accident, after having viewed the video tape themselves, showing him getting speared: Irwin was not intimidating or threatening the animal in any way. It is also very rare for a stingray to attack like this. It was also announced today that a videotape will be shown, although where and what will be editted i dont for sure know. The cameraman saw Irwin remove the barb from his body, which will have made his injury alot worse, as the serrated blade will have torn all the flesh as it came out. The cameraman also noted that his death was almost instantaneously after he removed the barb.

You're an idiot, Darvlay, and I though engineers were smart; guess I was wrong!. Making light of someone such as Steve Irwin's death is nothing to make light of. I also challenge you to post where I've insulted races, i.e., black, white, brown, yellow, etc.. Maybe I've been anti-Muslim before, but I've never stated that I hated moderate-peaceful Muslims, only Islamofaascists, but my anti Muslim posts have been nothing compared to what you and your atheists pals have posted about anti-Christianity, so that point proves again what an idiot you are....you really are stoopid! It blows my mind....go have a nude wrestling match with moldy crow.....moron....

Being less than a metre from the ray is threatening it ,especially coming from above .
