It might work if we all knew that the departed would be amused by it. I've lost people who would think it funny. But it's hit or miss here, where we are not that close.

My brother recently had a stroke/fall/broken hip and died 11 days later. While in the hospital, my niece, checking his cognition, asked him where he was. His reply? "I'm in deep s**t."

He was right.
