It might work if we all knew that the departed would be amused by it. I've lost people who would think it funny. But it's hit or miss here, where we are not that close.

My brother recently had a stroke/fall/broken hip and died 11 days later. While in the hospital, my niece, checking his cognition, asked him where he was. His reply? "I'm in deep s**t."

    He was right.

Without knowing if Stella was a life mate like a wife, or a fond friend, or a pet.
That being said, two weeks ago, one of our cats passed away. She had been getting weak for the last month. The last week she was struggling to breathe, but seemed comfortable.
Her last night, she started coughing, then went into the kitchen, laid down and died.
I cried like a baby when I saw her, and worse when I picked her up to bury her. I cried for three days off and on. I'm crying now.
Little Miss Phoebe was close to my wife, she would occasionally hug and love others but she was momma's girl.
I know it's hard to imagine a "tough old cowboy" who is a professional butcher crying over a dead cat.
But she was family, just as much as anyone else. She was loved, and knew it.
