I know what you are saying, when i was staying with friends in Nelson (North England), they had a farm with fresh meat. Saying that I thought all beef is essentially organic? The cows eat the grass, it makes them big and strong, you eat the cow. I only recently reverted back to vegetarianism after a few years out, its not on any higher principles ...[text shortened]... shroom sauce, with roast tatties, yorkshire pudd, gravy and veg with a pint of good English ale?

Originally posted by robbie carrobieMmmm, I would just prefer to wipe my conscience clear and give it up altogether. I tried in the new year and lasted three days. I don't think I approached it the right way though. I don't really know any decent vegetarian recipes which is always my downfall. I cracked after three days of home made vegetable soup, enough to make anyone lose it I think. My vegetarian repertoire consists of vegetable soup and dal. I think I need a good Indian cook book.

Originally posted by jimslyp69how veggy are you prepared to go for their are varying degress, those who only eat white meat, fish and pork (not strictly veggys, but they may claim it), those who dont eat any meat including eggs, and those who wont touch animal fats of any description. all you need to do is make the same meals but substitute it with soya protein. I make a rather awesome spaghetti bolognese with soya mince, its really tasty with lashings of red wine, fresh parmesan cheese, think of all the other pasta dishes you could eat, creamy carbonara, veg lasagne etc , what about Chinese, they do amazing veggy meals with noodles, especially if your conscience lets you eat fish and Indian is also great, go on youtube, they have some excellent Indian ladies who teach some great recipes (sagg paneer), spinach and cheese is awesome!

Originally posted by jimslyp69I had some lovely fresh fish today...so fresh that it was whupped out of the container alive, cludgeoned, descaled and gutted an hour before it hit the frying pan. I could never go veggy. We're omnivores, end of story for me really...although i had a dish called Yang tang (not sure on the spelling of the first word but that's how it sounds to me)...which turned out to be a soup containing bits of most of a lamb's internal organs...meaty with a hint of bile, i wont be trying again 😛

Originally posted by robbie carrobieI'm not sure really. I was kind of thinking of going the full hog 🙂 I have only recently developed a palette for fish, which I used to hate as a child. Tesco do a lovely mackerel with chilli and lime marinade. So I'm not sure if I would include fish or not. I wouldn't feel as guilty as eating fish as I would eating a mammal, but they are still living creatures none the less.

Now you mention the soya, I could always adapt my kick ass chicken chilli recipe. I reckon I will try again soon. I only just got a large shop in the other day, so I will have to let my stacks of meat dwindle and replace them. I think a lot of it is to do with habit. I will just have to give the lamb chops a wide berth, next time I am out.

I had a decent massage today with those glass cups heat up and stuck to my back after. The guy who did it could tell things about me just by reading my pulse that a western doctor couldn't (like i worked nights and had stomache acid issues in the near past). It was goddamn painful though.

It's like whose people who claim to be vegetarian but eat fish. Nope, you're a pescatarian. I wouldn't claim to be teetotal and then add the caveat, 'but i do have a couple of glasses of wine a week'.
Originally posted by Proper KnobSorry for the inaccuracy i was simply relating my experience, but i have heard people make the claim, and when pressed, admit to eating white meats, eggs, fish etc. Cool i am a pescatarian, ride on. . . . .brutha!
