When I read Dianetics many years ago, this was before I had heard of Scientology, and I remember thinking "ok, it's an interesting theory, and it may actually work" and it seemed fairly scientific at the time.
Then when I finally linked it up with Scientology, I thought, "ok, so that explains the name, but where the hell do they get the idea that this is ...[text shortened]... .. but almost no one knows about it, and almost no one visits it, and almost no one cares.
I was into it (scient-socalled-ology) for about a week a long time ago when old L Ron was still alive and was lucky enough to be brought into a bit of the inner circle in the DC area where they had a headquarters for a while. The office was filled with Ron grams, having referances to such things as the, and I quote, 'the 45 solution', meaning if you are an ex scientologist and are not quiet about it, you can get killed and that is literal not figurative. Its one creepy 'religion' for sure.
They get into your finances so deep it makes the mormons look like a girlscout cookie drive.

I have a couple of questions about Scientology:
How come only Hollywood actors are the only Scientologists we ever read about?
How come there are no "normal" Scientologists?
Seems to me you've got to be earning $20 million a picture in order to join the club.
'Operating thetan' whatever the helski that is.

The average person isn't wealthy enough to become a member and be "respected" amongst them. 😕
I think Elvis was right when he said "F - - - those people! There's no way I'll ever get involved with that son-of-a-bitchin' group. All they want is my money". 😛

It's no surprise that Scientologists (and psychiatrists) have set up shop in Hollywood. First, successful actors have enormous wealth. Secondly, acting is not a normal career that anyone can train for, work at and follow a career path to become successful. Consequently, actors are narcissistic-paranoids because they are constantly wondering: What did I do to deserve any of this? Am I pretty enough? Am I talented enough? Should I sleep with this producer for this part? They need constant reaffirmation that they are indeed worthy. And that's where the Scientologists and witch doctors...I mean psychologists come in. By keeping these high earning, but highly unstable people on edge, then stroking their inflated egos, Scientologists and pill-pusher head shrinks can make a tidy sum in Tinseltown.
