She contracted meningococcal septicemia when she was five months old. She just scrapped through (hence the loans....), but unfortunately as she got older we discovered that the growth tissue in her knees had been badly affected.
Her legs bowed, getting worse week by week.
Eventually we were given a choice - leave her with 4yr old legs for the rest of her life, or put her through operation every two years to straighten her legs. This continues until she is 13/14 when they can remove the damaged tissue and stop her legs from growing.
Obviously, we took the second option, but a year and a half after the first op, her legs are really bad again. The doc's have said if they bow anymore then she could be permanantly disabled.
She has to wear leg braces all day, every day (which she hates), and we still don't know whether or not they are going to risk another op next summer.

Isn't S.A.D. due to a vitamin D deficiency from lack of sunlight? I mean, I'm sure all the other stuff doesn't help, but you might have an easier time riding it out if you took something as simple as a multivitamin.
I'm not kidding.....
