On average, even a well cared for Fraser will lose 50% of its needles a month or so after being cut.

So we cut ours, usually around Dec 20th, and take it down (putting in our backyard for the birds to use), around Jan 2nd.

Right so it isn't up for a month, many around here have their tree up first week in December and it doesn't come down until old Christmas Jan.6th, just a custom that has been done for Generations.
