the reason for the site delay was explained some time ago by @Russ as AI bots instigating a dedicated denial of service (dds)

I am about as tech savvy as you are, probably less actually. I am sure he is working at it, sounds like it would be a pain in the butt. But yes that describes it well "Slow as molasses in January", I would add going up hill!!!
