Does it really matter? Chance are we all will come up against a computer once in a while, it should average out. Anyway you still have to think against the engine so you should still be improving your game - isn't that what your trying to achieve?

If you want something that counts, why don't you try the BFCC open: http://www.bfcc-online.org.uk/

I can guarantee you that players are very much less likely to cheat when playing under their own name!

at the risk of sounding stupid, how is it even possible to cheat at chess on this site?

Im not overly bothered if i loose, Christ if it really bothered me that much i'd have left ages ago. It's just that there are some game moderators (they've been elected, see community>votes at the top.)

If nothing can be done, fine, i'll just have to live with it. However, if something can be done, i'd like to know what it is, hence the thread. πŸ™‚

Fair enough. It is frustrating if you think you have lost unfairly.

I haven't lost yet and don't intend to, i'll just make one well thought out move a week and see what happens. πŸ˜€

by letting a chess engine tell you which move would be best.

I wanted a list of users BOOTED from the site for cheating... but cooler heads prevailed and Russ and David decided it is better to let them fade away.

There is no score, there are users who have vanished... and other who were forced off... and several under investigation.

Marina, is this the same user from before, or you got a new one?

Also, I erased a few posts here... please don't bring names up, as Russ had decided not to drag people through the streets. I'm not sure I need to close this thread yet... so, it's still open, for now.

Thanks Phlab. No1 and tmetzler both messaged me about this(thank you both for your helpπŸ™‚). I was under the impression that nothing was happening, that's why i felt i had to ask. I see now that there is something going on and i have to say im surprised it has all been kept so hush hush. Obviously you don't want to invite people to throw accusations around but surely there should be some written information on the subject (specifically regarding submitting a player for analysis, ie: what information is most usefull to submit when making an accusation and who do you send it to? With this informatoin the subject can be kept out of the forum completely)

No1M has offered to put some games through fritz (thanks No1 πŸ™‚) so i'll wait to get a second opinion before i make a formal accusation for the guy im playing at the moment.

Did anything come of the first guy i mentioned? I haven't played him but his chart was highly suspect...

People who have been booted should be named and shamed. This has 3 advantanges,
1) people can feel a bit better about themselves if they see that they have beaten/been beaten by an engine.
2) people won't speculate in the forums as to why such and such hasn't moved since such a date. This type of speculation amounts to nothing more than insinuation that the player got the boot for cheating.
3) people will be able to see that there is something being done about internet cheating on this site, which would be a good incentive to join for some people.

Yes and no.

Yes, we need to see something is being done but advertising the games mods to everyone to speculate over will more than likely result in a massive increase in the number of accusations. As fare as im aware it's just David Tebb and Phlabibit at the mo...

One thing is that people will be detered from using engines in the first place. If people know there is a mecanism in place to catch them they might think twice.

I agree and I add another ''advantage'':

4)the naming of booted people would discourage future or wannabe cheaters and serve as a warning.
