Originally posted by RavelloWhat makes someone cheat in the first place anyway? Do they seek respect from other players by having a good rating? YES, i think they do. To anyone who seeks acceptance like this, the thought of being held to account and shamed in front their peers may prove too great a shame to chance. Im not talking about putting them up for public discussion, just a 'Banned' in their profle.
I agree and I add another ''advantage'':
4)the naming of booted people would discourage future or wannabe cheaters and serve as a warning.

well, my question is this: how would you know if your opponent is cheating or not? I mean you could have your suspicions but how would you ever prove something like that?
This, of course becomes more difficult the better the player appears to be, as there is a greater likelyhood of similarity expected from players of the same caliber. But programs still have their own unique style of play.
Originally posted by ark13I can see how this is done in theory. But a 'clever' cheat could play the odd intentional mistake in an attempt to mask the chess engine. Either that or just use an engine when they ran into problems. It's not all black and white.

Originally posted by jimslyp69Yes, that's how smart cheats (I guess there is no 'smart cheat'😉 are able to get away with it. They only use the program on some moves. There's nothing we can do about that. It's just the dumb cheats that use it for every move that are easy to identify.

Just leave it as it is i say! u cant do anything about it unless your 100% sure! and i do hate those type of people who use engines, i dont really care if they play against me using an engine! its good practice! what i hate about them is that this what they call fun! beating everybody, having a high rating and becoming famous! it sux bigtime! they wont gain anything out of it, nor improve ther play at all! its just a waste of time for them!
Good luck JamY-
PS, get back to our game and make a move 😛

I have been very suspicious of cheaters on yahoo especially when they have a high rating but act like kids (ie sending obscene messages etc before the game has really got under way and without incidence).
Absolutely not! I'd rather play on and loose than do that. I don't mind loosing if im beaten by a better player. A computer will always beat me though, no exception. Im on my highest rating ever, it's taken me 3 years of hard work and study to get here, i don't want to have my recent streak ended by an engine. This is all hiperthetical of course, th ...[text shortened]... eone to look into it cos you don't need to look to deep to realize they are highly suspiscious.

There are no time outs at this time that i can find, so he actually lost to numerous low rated players (guys between 1000-1200) by check mate. Looking at some of these games, i see he plays fools mate as his standard opening, ie: he is a beginner, and not a very good one at that. This was last november. Now, he is rated 1890, plays the french defence/ sicillian defense / caro kann / ruy lopez / kings indian defense / dutch defense!, all to a sufficiantly high enouph standard to slay 17/18/1900 players. Now does that sound like a reason to be suspiscious to you?
