In the super markets over here (australia, queensland) it is marketed mainly under the 2 titles. 1. "Soda" . 2. "Mineral Water". It is actually carbonated water, right? (I believe the soda is more carbonated in general, but it varies from company to company )
As someone who has had a problem with drugs in the past, and then made the slow but eventually succesful recovery from drug addictions of all kinds 😉 , I have found carbonated water to be the most sublime medicine that I have come across. So simple. No side effects. Helps with so many bodily functions. It's dirt cheap.
Has anyone else got a fondness with this simple medicine and delicious drink?
Does any one have any other facts about soda and perhaps where the name "soda" comes from?
Does any one live in a country where you can still purchase those "bulb machines" , where you screw a couple of little metal cannisters into the side of the metal bottle and it carbonates the water? I dont even know what they're called. We have called them "bulbicators" for so long I had forgotten what they are actually called.
I'm not sure, but they may have been banned because of the misuse of drug addicts. (They used whipped cream bulbs into empty bottles and then breathed in lungful of gas. I think its just like happy gas at hospitals, but last only a half a minute .Hard to classify as a drug)

I take a few drinks of tonic water with quinine daily. It tastes like gakk but it is a natural muscle relaxer.
I think you're referring to seltzer bottles, and N2O Nitrous oxide.
N2O !! Thanks again.
Do you still have them where you live now?
Why cant I make cheap soda @ home? ðŸ˜
Surely I could find one on the net but then where do I get a constant bulb supply?
(Sorry, CP, you dont have to answer all that, it's just out there for the general forum. You've already helped me in my obsession with soda!!)
Originally posted by ChessPraxisOooh , I love tonic. I used to live on it. You can get used to the taste and actually get an affection for it - especially when mixed with gin 🙂

But seriously, I used to drink tonic by itself for years and it made me feel great at the time.

Australia called them "soda syphons" and the bulbs were sold under the brand name Sparklets, mainly in hardware and household stores rather than supermarkets. Now that you mention it I haven't seen them for years, but I don't recall a banning. Currently, try:

I used to own one, made in Poland I think, but it was too big and fat to fit in the fridge so eventually got lost in a move. The modern ones look much more streamlined.
The bulbs also used to go in cream whipper gadgets and sometimes even corkscrews.
Our "soda water" is tap water with CO2 bubbles added. What they sell as "mineral water" is often just that, although they are careful not to say that for fear of stirring up the consumer watchdogs.
Originally posted by KewpieThanks. I remember seeing them on op shops and rarely sold for new. Then I didn't see them at all.

The bulbs were long ago moved from supermarkets shelves - both kinds.
Other than the internet, there must be some specialty stores that stock bulbs and bulbicators!

Ok thanks, Kewpie 🙂
Had no Idea tonic water was a muscle relaxant, I thought it was the gin, apparently tonic/quinine was used to ward of malaria too.

Is what we have in the UK, but to be honest, it is cheaper to buy a bottle of carbonated water and add the flavours without the machine or gas.
If you like really sweet fizzy drinks you could make your own but with stevia instead of normal sugar.

On another subject altogether, you can turn your fizzy drinks into medication with things like Dandelion and Burdock etc.
