It could be said that the play is a little rougher in some forums, but also that that rough play is largely contained to those forums, and could also be considered some kind of consensual adult improv comedy (might be wrong, though!).
I remember that you have much younger relatives playing on this site, so maybe it's up to you to advise them where they shouldn't go and explain why -- and also, thousands or hundreds of thousands stay out of the forums completely.
Also, if any of your younger relatives ever dares to call me a "Boomer" instead of "Kid of the Space-Age" I might report them! 😉
@Ponderable saidI hope that the forums I visit from time to time are not representative of the people posting there. I think it's more of an image or attitude to impress others here.
In fact I think the "Debates" Forum was dangerous terrain when I joined the site.
@MartinS
an observation, perhaps unappreciated
a forum, standing alone,
is the same as any forum anywhere
should a forum become polluted
fouled by vindictive disagreement
that is not the fault of the forum
the disagreement is not to blame
just alternate viewpoints of the same flat earth
what strains civility is the words chosen to describe the flatness
is the mona lisa truly "better" than any of bob ross' happy lil trees?
did the chicken truly cross the road before the egg?
what of the lyrics of rock n roll that offend the senses?
please, allow me to introduce myself
i'm a spy in the house of love
when a staid forum becomes crap
it is the language used that diminishes both participants and place
i did not get to read yer initial rant
a shame that i've concocted all this on zero evidence
i hope peace will infest yer breakfast
and tomorrow as well
People will complain no matter what. First the Moderation was too strong then it wasn't strong enough. Can never please all the people, so not even worth trying to the way I see it. One thing is if you are going to play in the forums better have a tough skin and remember most of the time it isn't really personal.

Just getting to read @rookie54's poetry is worth the price of admission around here.
Poetry offers the perfect counterbalance to the levels of anger we’ve been seeing in the forums lately. The world is continuing to grow and adapt—moving toward a more nuanced and balanced understanding of who holds power and why.
Some people once believed that a certain demographic was more naturally equipped to lead. But we know better now. Leaders come in all shapes, sizes, and backgrounds.
I’m excited for the future—and for my granddaughter’s generation. She’ll enjoy a freedom to thrive that we can only begin to imagine today. 👩 💖
@Arkturos saidI wrote three replies to this post and deleted all three before posting.

They all started with "Ok Boomer..."
@Very-Rusty saidHowever, most of the time, they will see it as personal.

The problem these days is that you can never tell if they are taking it personally, or if they are merely saying they're taking it personally.
It can get fairly toxic in Debates and sometimes Spirituality; I try to have a rule that I don't say anything to anyone that I wouldn't say to their face, but I'm not certain I always abide by it....It's a different form of communication, having no other means of contact, or getting to know 'the person', and you do have to muscle up sometimes, meek lambs don't tend to last very long. As Mister Rusty has said, it's important not to take it too seriously or personally, certainly I bear no ill - will to anyone who has chewed my proverbials over the years. Through the forums and the site in general, I've made friends and lost friends, and come out of it with a few firm friendships, so it it's not all bad, but it's a good idea sometimes to put on some protective clothing before you enter the snake - pit.
Also, I find it's best not to get too involved for too long, if it gets too hot I leave the kitchen...
@Indonesia-Phil saidConversations about Religion or Politics often get very Toxic!

@Very-Rusty saidYep, can't argue with that Mister R. Although if this was 'Debates' I probably would. Just kidding....

cain't talk about guns, or money, or women
why on earth would i discuss the weather?
won't chat about priests, and never politics
but i'll speak at length about calfskin leather
it snuggles my thighs, and caresses my cheeks
the fit is as tight as a glove
i like it best when i wear nothing underneath
ohh, is this the forum of sinful love?
