firstly, there is no 'e' in ridiculous.

secondly, you're half right and half wrong, yes, cookies cannot change your homepage or your registry you are right, in fact a cookie is just a text string that is usually used to talk to the web server next time you go to that web site, usually storing password and username.... however, spyware is very often in ...[text shortened]... if spyware replicated itself within your system, it would i guess be classed as a virus
If you look at a dictionary of slang your reply is rediculous. I asked you again how what you said is written somewhere reliable on the web -

deleting cookies isnt going to help, whoever told you that? once you have the cookie, a harmful one, it can change the registry and do all sorts, usually changin the home page of your browser

If you can prove that a technical document on a reliable website concurs with you, I rest my case. What you have written above is simply rediculous.

I asked you for a reliable technical document such as McAfee,Symantec, Microsoft, Mozilla, CERT etc What viruses do is known and documented so your explanation should be contained in one of these encyclopaedias of spyware/viruses.

You appear to have been talking from your behind, that is why what you have written doesn't exist anywhere on the documented cases of viruses/spyware.

chances are the item that tells you that you have 200 threats is a virus (I'm 99.9% sure it is). It is to trick you into downloading it (if you havent done already. Chances are you went on some dodgy website.

Download HIJACKTHIS and submit your log to Castlecops.com. They will guide you through getting rid of the virus.

An example of a fake antivirus/fake antispyware is Bestseller Antivirus which you can do a quick internet search to see how damaging. These things install themselves almost automatically when you are using Internet Explorer.

To end the argumet, I was using FF when this happened. I have now switched to the latest version of IE and have not had any problems yet.

You sound like you are not only telling lies but you are cheating as well. What is the name of this virus or was that a popup advert?

Does "Rulz" mean "sucks donkey balls" ?

Seems to me that Firefox is for the type of people that think "Rulz" is a proper word 😛

I've been lurking here, and suspected I had these annoyances on my pc, and just for shiggles I went to mcafee and got their free scan, and it found 17 threats..

I then went to rogue remover which is a small program (615 kb I think) and downloaded it, and it gave me the same list! I had Vundo, error safe, and winantivirus 2007,etc.. all listed as threats by both!

I then ran rogue remover, and boom boom boom it removed them in about 6 seconds! Since then a-ok (knock on wood)..

Thank you!!!

i wouldnt bother huckle, ludz or rudz or whatever his name is is a waste of space, he seems to believe mozilla is god and doesnt allow any spyware or adware through....

i'm a microsoft certified engineer and have tried to explain how stuff works but he wont have it, i was trying to say to him a cookie is mallicious because it tricks the user into thinking it is a cookie when very often it is a .exe or .cmd file....

i've given up with him, no dount he's about 14 and uses mozilla and so knows it all... a lot of good mozilla will be in a domain enviroment running server 2003, maybe he would like to walk round 2000 pc's changing its settings

so you cant download software through mozilla then?
