Well I did exactly the same when I went on holiday because I was uncertain of internet access and gf's patience at finding and spending time in an internet cafe. As it happens I did find one round the corner from the hotel, so could move frequently. It isn't a problem now as I play more on gameknot now where you can suspend games when on holiday.

can a game be suspended for vacations at any time without consultation on gameknot?

it depends on the opponent.

If my opponents want to send me documentary proof of their holiday (oh, I don't know, a plastic bucket and spade, some ouzo, their brochure, some photos of their girlfriends sunbathing, a few hundred pesetas), I'll be happy to respect their natty sign. Otherwise I'll just raise my own in mockery and then time them out. (After all, you can't really complain about being timed out by someone else who's on holiday, can you?)

yes you suspend it yourself, of course it can be annoying and hold up tournaments etc but compared to being timed out while on holiday it is a much lesser evil. The problem is that tournaments can last easily over a year so you cannot plan for holidays.

I think you are asking me? yes the game is postponed for a number of days, in effect your timebank is expanded to as many days as you want, up to 20 for non subscribers and 30 for subscribers.

In either case then, I much prefer RHP's vacation sign. so much so that I will make one to hang around my neck in OTB games

In my case driving a truck all over the country leaves little time to make any moves. Sometimes I am layed over for the night waiting to get a load and then I can make a few moves. It would be kind of silly to remove the vacation sign for an hour just to put it back on.
