If this was a man, would you care a quarter of what you care about her? I seriously doubt it.

You could see that coming a mile away.

A middle aged women with learning difficulties. She should have been
protected and not exposed to this circus.

People were so eager to make money out of her and exploit her they
never for one minute cared about her well being. Just their own
greedy selves and the ratings, don't forget the ratings.

She has had a massive crack up.
I wonder if they are going to put this bit in the film.
I enjoy reading most of your posts, but can't agree with this one.

Everybody should be free to do whatever it is that they want, whatever their learning disabilities. Would you like to sit on the panel which judges if someone is too incapable of dealing with life or too slow for the show?

What really moved me about Boyle's first performance was the parrallels between the song and her own life, up to and including her reception by the crowd the first night.

I believe that she will be signed for at least one album, and for anyone, I think that is a good result, doubly so for an unemployed middle aged woman with a dream and talent.

I think the positives out of this far outweigh the negatives.

I was watching the Chinese news today, and Susan was a story. Crazy that her going into the Priory would make it to the News there.

If it's good or not will depend on how she'll cope with it.

It wouldn't surprise me that the producers of this show planned the whole thing. The rise and fall of Susan Boyle was the perfect script to milk the most out of her.

"How could Greenpawn know exactly why Susan Boyle was admitted
to a clinic? "

I don't know if you are privvy to the Scottish news where I live.
They have been interviewing her family and friends
since her first performance.

They talk of her as having "good and bad days."
We are not talking about a regular performer here, this is someone
who has problems and needs to be surrounded by her family and friends.

Her brother was on TV today saying she constantly needs her
confdence boosted and has these deep morose moments.

The excuse that she was exhausted is not holding water. People
who are exhausted do not need a police escort to take them to a clinic.
The hotel called the police and she was taken to the clinic.

I really do feel for her. They want to just leave her alone.
The feeling and general consensus of the people who know her is she
is not going to cope.

"Simon Cowell has defended having children appear on BGT. "

Who mentioned Children? And anyway.
Having Simon Cowell defend it does not make it right.

"And if Susan Boyle had the appearance of, say, a young Amanda
Holden, then would she necessarily have coped better with the
consequences of her instant global fame?"

Apart from stating she is a middle aged woman, which is true,
I have not mentioned Susan Boyle's appearance. I have left those
jibes to others. She has led a fairly sheltered life which will not
stand her in good stead of what is ahead of her.

If she's got learning difficulties then it's up to her family to protect her!

Yes it's called showbusiness, she should of been well aware of this befor she went on stage for the first time...it's not the shows fault if some people aren't aware that showbusiness can do this to some people...if you step into the public eye like she did this is one of the things that can happen, that's life...hope she gets well soon though!

Let's get down to the real question, just how many beers would it take for you to shag her rotten?

I'd give a quarter to see her wearing a Tom Jones crotch rocket strap-on.

GRANNY.

(first, to answer Hand of Hecate's question: None. If it's got a pulse, then I'll shag it)

OK that's the joke out of they way...

Back to thread.

I've copied this from a news report a few minutes ago.

"Boyle was admitted to the Priory Clinic in North London on Sunday,
after an unspecified incident at the Crowne Plaza hotel, Central London.
The police have confirmed that officers attended to help “doctors
assessing a woman under the Mental Health Act”,

No it's exhaustion. A celebrity said so, so it must be true.

I too hope she recovers and gets back to her normal self.
I only hope she does not put her name into google. There are
some very sick people out there and they seem to be enjoying
every moment of her torment.

Others are getting upset because it's not the cosy
happy ending that they usually get from their TV.
This too real for them to accept.

BGT really is a crass pathetic show.

They do not seek real talented people, they go for the 'odd acts'.

The farting man, fat belly dancers,.... it's Jackass for the masses.
Only this is better scripted and stage managed.

The viewers are being played like fiddles.

I saw a piece where one of the contestants Mothers stormed on stage
and gave Cowell a hard time.

Yeah right, that would happen.

And people sit there and believe this utter guff.

Talented musicians and singers always 'make it'. Talent will out.
This circus is purely a money making excercise.

Jim Chancellor is the managing director of Fiction Records, and signed
Elbow and Snow Patrol among others. “I’ve a real problem with those
talent shows,” he says. It’s abhorrent, this idea of ‘let’s roll out a
bunch of freaks and then gasp as we see how good they are’.

and last quote:

"...the truth is that Susan Boyle is a vulnerable and exploited middle-aged
woman. She is not a star in the making, being given a lucky break thanks to BGT.

The mix up has come from me.

I stated the middle age bit because sudden fame at that stage
in one's life can be very unsettling. If people really wanted to
be famous they would have done it by then.

Nobody twisted her arm to appear but when they heard her unofficial
audition they worked out the scam with the three 'let's pretend to be
surprised' judges on the first performance.

This worked a treat, many people fell for it, including 99% of the planet.

They exploited her appearance to the full for an effect, a gimmick and
now this vulnerable woman has had a breakdown.
